Two Police Officers

Quotes from AG Holder and President Obama..

snip//

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder sharply condemned the shootings of police Wednesday night as a "disgusting and cowardly attack."

"What happened last night was a pure ambush," Holder said. "This was not someone trying to bring healing to Ferguson. This was a damn punk, a punk, who was trying to sow discord."

President Obama, in an appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Live TV show Thursday night, said "we don't yet know what happened" in the shooting but offered his prayers to the wounded officers and their families.

"There's no excuse for criminal acts,'' the president said. "They're criminals. They need to be arrested. And then what we need to do is make sure that like-minded, good-spirited people on both sides, law-enforcement who have a terrifically tough job and people who understand they don't want to be stopped and harassed because of their race, that we're able to work together to try and come up with some good answers."

Obama Discusses Ferguson With Jimmy Kimmel

snip//

LOS ANGELES — President Obama on Thursday said that whoever shot at police officers in Ferguson, Mo., this week were “criminals” and should be arrested, but added that their actions should not detract from the civil rights issues that have been raised.

He said that protesters there had a legitimate right to be angry about their treatment at the hands of the police.

“What had been happening in Ferguson was oppressive and objectionable and was worthy of protest,” Mr. Obama said during an appearance on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” “But there was no excuse for criminal acts.”

Mr. Obama cited the recent Justice Department report on Ferguson, which he said found a “whole structure” that indicated “both racism and just a disregard for what law enforcement is supposed to do.” But he repeated his belief that what happened in the Missouri city was “not unique, but it’s also not the norm.”
