.....Republicans publically revered a Russian President over their own President, and aided Islamic extremists to undermine multinational peace talks.
Who ever would have thought a Republican would be caught in such a situation? Not my Republican boss. Never in a million years did he ever think his party would come to this. He thinks he really needs to find new political associations. Good.

(13,685 posts)reagan gave aid and comfort to the radicals in Iran. And republicans praised him; damn idiots. Tell him I said so.

And then he said he was "out of the loop" when reagan gave aid to the radical Muslims in Iran. There is even a theory that poppy was instrumental in the hostage trading.

And the one who was admittedly "in the loop", Colonel Oliver North, ended up as a sort of national hero. No doubt that colonel's uniform brought many a patriotic tear to the eyes of committee members.

(13,685 posts)reagan "couldn't recall" what he was doing as president.
The republicans should get down on their knees and give Bill a bj for letting bushco to skate on the whole Iran/Contra affairs bushco had with those radical Muslims in Iran.

(20,998 posts)The October Surprise conspiracy theory refers to an alleged plot to influence the outcome of the 1980 United States presidential election between incumbent Jimmy Carter (DGA) and opponent Ronald Reagan (RCA).
One of the leading national issues during that year was the release of 52 Americans being held hostage in Iran since 4 November 1979. Reagan won the election. On the day of his inauguration, in fact, 20 minutes after he concluded his inaugural address, the Islamic Republic of Iran announced the release of the hostages. The timing gave rise to an allegation that representatives of Reagan's presidential campaign had conspired with Iran to delay the release until after the election to thwart President Carter from pulling off an "October surprise".
According to the allegation, the Reagan Administration rewarded Iran for its participation in the plot by supplying Iran with weapons via Israel and by unblocking Iranian government monetary assets in U.S. banks.
After twelve years of mixed media attention, both houses of the U.S. Congress held separate inquiries and concluded that the allegations lacked supporting documentation.
Nevertheless, several individualsmost notably former Iranian President Abulhassan Banisadr, former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, former Naval intelligence officer and National Security Council member Gary Sick; and former Reagan/Bush campaign and White House staffer Barbara Honeggerhave stood by the allegation. There have been allegations that the 1980 Camarate air crash which killed the Portuguese Prime Minister, Francisco de Sá Carneiro, was in fact an assassination of the Defence Minister, Adelino Amaro da Costa, who had said that he had documents concerning the October surprise conspiracy theory and was planning on taking them to the United Nations General Assembly.

(45,806 posts)has treated this President, including having a foreign leader come and speak to congress AGAINST the President, AND supporting the radicals in Iran over the American President.
Yes It's very obvious to us that this is all happening, but it will be confirmed to the world in the historical records.
I guess they don't really care what's recorded about them, but I suspect they WILL one day.

(5,954 posts)"So...my Party freed the African-American slaves, and 150 years later we had the first African-American President. What did my Party do to him? Questioned his loyalty to the Country, depicted him as a witch doctor on protest signs, yelled 'you lie!' at him during a State of the Union Address, defunded the government to try and stop him from implementing a law, and wrote a letter to an enemy power telling them not to bother negotiating a peace treaty with him because they had absolutely no intention of honoring it, regardless of what it says. They also gutted the voting rights Act, and passed laws making it more difficult for African-Americans to vote; and held a Contempt vote against the first African-American Attorney General for no reason. Fuck this, I'm burning my membership card."

(15,240 posts)I expect someday historians will look at a host of issues and not be called conspiracy theorist. There are many anomalies in interpretation of current events where the story has not really been told. Republicans will be far over the wrong side of history.
