Iowa House passes bill requiring ultrasound before abortion
BY KAY HENDERSON
DES MOINES, Iowa Fri Mar 13, 2015 2:14am EDT
(Reuters) - The Republican-led Iowa House voted on Thursday to require doctors to perform an ultrasound on any woman seeking an abortion and let her see the image and hear the fetus' heartbeat.
The bill passed by a 57-39 vote after several hours of debate, though it is not likely to pass in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
"It is my belief that we are defending two lives here, both a mother and a child," Republican Representative Joel Fry said to open the debate.

Supporters of Iowa's measure, which would carry possible licence discipline and a fine for doctors who violate it, claimed it would provide crucial information to women making an irrevocable decision.

This is supposed to be for any woman? At least the other awful laws were for any medicaid paid terminations.
Jesus christ on a cheese sandwich I'm sick of these asswipes!
I don't know enough about the Iowa Senate. Will they pass this?

I skimmed the article quickly and must have missed that. Glad to hear that. I sure hope it doesn't.
I'm sick to death of these anti women laws.

How utterly cruel to compel an ultrasound on a grieving woman, whose child has died in utero and must have a therapeutic abortion.
