My friend's new rant abainst Obama

And she is a democrat. She says she is but she isn't really.

She has been so irritated with Obama this whole last week. He is such a weak president. (She sees him as being weak as water and totally outmatched by Putin). Instead of handling all the important issues going on he has been all over with this black stuff and he's just helping to get everybody all riled up again. (Her words pretty close) She was completely incensed and filled with loathing when she saw those pictures in the paper of the president in Selma
. (My take on the whole thing).

I have to put the phone down when she goes off on this stuff. And she always another reason to prove that he is an inept idiot.

How is Obama at fault for the divided Republican Congress that can't walk and chew gum at the same time?

I think she thinks that a "strong" president would be able to keep all those guys in line.

that was really affected by the race riots.

She says "they" took over her neighborhood and her school and her shopping areas. I wasn't here in Kansas City during those times but I think things got pretty bad. She was just a little kid then. It was a horrible time for her.

So seeing Obama in the picture in Selma just brought up a whole bunch of stuff for her.

I don't think that way and I didn't live in an area that saw riots so I can't really understand.

peace and honor to those who have died and were beaten on that bridge in quietly protesting the racism against Black people that was prevalent all throughout the country, but especially in the South. Were she not a racist against Blacks, she would've known this.

Lots of older white folks around here are really pretty racist. They wouldn't ever do anything violent or say anything at all in the company of others. Their racism just runs so deep. My mother was like that. Well, my father was , too. Those people aren't ever going to change.

I have high hopes for the kids I see today. I don't think they have the same built in prejudices that my parents had and that still so many of my friends that are closer to my age have.

to call them out on it and shame them with it the moment I see it. If more Americans do that, these innate racists won't be so quick to wear their racism on their sleeve, so to speak, even if we can't change their minds.

I kind of like knowing just where people stand on issues. Most people around here don't talk about race issues unless they are with people they know think the same. And then they kind of whisper to each other. Kind of like 3rd graders.

I do think things might be improving. Now people are actually aware that they are racist. They used to think it was just business as usual. Everyone accepted it. I don't think most people accept it as the status quo any more. They are aware that a whole lot of people find racism unacceptable so they are a lot more careful about bringing the tired old stuff up when they are out in public.

Unless, of course, there are 5 drunk rednecks out being obnoxious and then all bets are off. God, I hate drunk rednecks.

On one hand, we don't want racism to become so commonplace and casual that people can be openly racist whenever they please, and on the other, we don't want them "going underground" again, either.

As for drunk rednecks...I've never seen any in my lifetime. Well, maybe on teevee from time to time, but not the real thing. Being Asian, I believe I'd get more than just a little scared if I did.

And I think about it a lot because knowing her is really a burden. For one thing she calls me several times a day. She just sits at home and watches TV - mostly reruns- all day. And I think she gets a lot of her political ideas from Fox. I really will not be surprised if she ends up in a nursing home in another year.

But she doesn't have anyone else. It would be easier for me to not have to deal with her everyday but I would never forgive myself if I just cut her off. It's OK. I can deal with this all right. And she makes me realize just how lucky I am to be my age and still be healthy and able to do lots of things. She is a perfect model for what not to do as you get older. It's not her fault. She has had a couple of really serious medical scares that really impacted her life and her thinking is negative ways.
