The letter (partial) to the editor of LSU's The Daily Reveille:
The news from the Governors office and the State Legislature has attained a level of buffoonery and comedy before unseen; in a state with a long history of both. Our beloved university is being systematically dismantled and as a result of our Governor and a significant portion of our Legislature (twenty-six) pledging allegiance to a Washington lobbyist with the long history of shady dealings. Your future earnings and the quality of your education is being adversely affected by the fact that a pledge was signed to a Washington operator by the name of Grover Norquist that under no conditions could taxes be raised.
Our elected officials have allowed him to become the most powerful person in our state. Proposed legislation is routinely sent to him by the Governor to seek his approval. Trust me its true.
Norquist was described by fellow conservative, Tucker Carlson, as a, cash-addled, morally malleable lobbyist. Norquist is the human equivalent of pond scum. He was a fellow traveler of pond scumite Abramoff and according to the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, Norquists organization served as a conduit for funds from Abramoffs clients and conservative lobbying campaigns.
Now for the comedy part, the Governor and Legislature constantly refer to how can they maintain their purity, or as it is sometimes referred to, their tax virginity. You have to be kidding me. This reminds me of two over-sexed teenagers dry humping in a backseat of car parked behind a levee wondering how far they can go while maintaining their purity or virginity. We are literally at the mercy of buffoons and comedians. While theyre humping, our university burns. Our only recourse is to stand up and fight for ourselves. Geaux Tigers.
The apology:
Since the publication of my Letter to the Editor yesterday, I have received a considerable amount of comments on my comparison of Grover Norquist to pond scum. As someone who has spent so much time in the public square, I understand how words and characterizations can be hurtful and unfair to those involved in the comparisons. After prayer and deep reflection and consultation with my spiritual and ethical mentors I am forced to take a step I rarely approach in my public life and that is to apologize to- pond scum.

(3,568 posts)of Carville's sarcastic non-apology. A little misdirection followed by a doubling down of the original insult.
Overreacting before examining the evidence in front of us; we all do that from time to time.

(53,791 posts)Even pond scum would not have the megalomaniac chutzpah to think that a scheme conjured up by his 12-year-old brain would be something that grown ass adults would be willing to pledge fealty to (Norquist has stated in interviews that his no-tax pledge came to him as a pre-adolescent 12-year-old).
Yet, somehow, he managed to worm himself and his adolescent-mind-meanderings of a pledge to the highest levels of the repug party for quite a while.
That lock-step, blind allegiance thing really works the with conservative mindset as, until very recently, Norquist along with his foolish pledge was a prominent player on the repug national scene.
His influence has dimmed somewhat lately though, but not the lock-step, blind allegiance thing amongst repugs as witnessed by the idiotic signings onto to the Cotton open letter to Iran by 47 senators.

(999 posts)There was no way Carville was ever going to apologize to Grover Norquist. He loves his state and he is so disgusted with what is happening to LSU. This is what happens when you are beholden to the money handlers.

Well, he was a snake -- Sigma Nu fraternity -- pretty much on a level with SAE from my GDI point of view.

(765 posts)To quote G/rover himself, when he was asked a 'real' question, about his 'no new tax' bill. He didn't have a answer, so he called the guy who disagreed with him, a 'poo poo head'. I swear, i'm not making that up.

(9,126 posts)But he always cracks me the fuck up. His biggest contribution is pulling back the curtain and treating politics like the bloodsport that it is. No flag pins and family portraits, it's about people who want power. With a gadfly like Carville around, people will be reminded of that. I am particularly looking forward to what he has to say about Jeb.
