(05-02) 05:00 PDT Westport, Mass. (AP) --
A Massachusetts dad says he smashed the window of a day care center to fetch his 3-year-old daughter, who'd been locked inside after staffers left for the day.
Keith Paquette says when he arrived at Westport Country Day School just after 5 p.m. Monday to pick up daughter Samantha Jo, the building was locked and no one was there.

(154,021 posts)they run everything from dog found to major international stories. That is what AP reporters do.
It IS on the wire, and since it came FROM THE WIRE... it is up to local papers to pick it up or not.
But since it is credited to AP... I would blame editors if you are going to blame anybody. That said editors at times pick up things like this to lighten the load on major stories, not to fill space, but to lighten load and give something heart warming. You have no clue how much these stories get hits.
Now if you have a this matters, local board that decided billions on dollars, or worst national bill, that matters right? It gets little traffic. A story like this, or the insert pet here saved... goes through the roof. I stopped wondering why a long time ago.
