Tom Cotton Seems Confused About The Basic Geography Of Iran
http://thinkprogress.org/world/2015/03/15/3633912/tom-cotton-alarmed-capital-iran-controlled-iran/
But when asked by Face the Nations Bob Schieffer what better outcome Cotton expects if a White House-led deal falls through, Cotton seemed to make a key geographic mistake, suggesting that Tehran, the capital of Iran, might be controlled by anyone other than Iranian leaders:
Schieffer: What do you want to happen here? What is your alternative here? Lets say that the deal falls through, then what?
Cotton: Well as Prime Minister Netanyahu said, the alternative to a bad deal is a better deal. The Iranians frequently bluff to walk away from the table. if they bluff this week, call their bluff. The Congress stands ready to impose much more severe sanctions. Moreover we have to stand up to Irans attempts to drive for regional dominance. They already control Tehran increasingly they control Damascus and Beirut and Baghdad and now Sanaa as well. They do all that without a nuclear weapon. imagine what they would do with a nuclear weapon.

But seriously, everything the right does in regard to Obama has nothing to do with the issue at hand and everything to do with their blind vicious hatred of his skin color and name.

(5,106 posts)They hate President Obama because he's Black, yes, but the icing on the cake is that he's a Black DEMOCRAT. They've sabotaged the previous three Democratic presidents, even hitting LBJ when he was leaving office, the fallout hitting Humphrey. It culminated, of course, with the Clinton impeachment. It surely makes them especially crazy because they can't find a legitimate reason for impeaching Obama. They throw the word around, however, with nearly every action he takes---no matter how many previous presidents have done the same.

Beartracks
(12,821 posts)Oh, yes. They'd hate him just as much if he were white.
I have no doubt his skin color "enhances" the bile from many conservatives. But I harbor no illusion that he'd be treated any better even if he her white. He'd still be the godless commie socialist nazi illegitimate illegal unconstitutional America-hating apologizer over-reaching soft-on-terrorism teleprompter-reliant gun-stealing unpatriotic liberal; the only difference is they wouldn't have come up with the "born in Kenya" canard.
To say they hate Obama because he's black is to deny the pattern of hate suffered by Clinton and the swiftboating of Kerry and others thru the years. Hatred is the de facto operating mode of the right.

Their international coalition might consist of Israel and the US. Any other country would be stupid to get involved.

(6,699 posts)...to run against them.
I got slapped down for saying this earlier, but I'll say it again; when you run an opponent against these teabagger, empty-headed clowns, they have to be a clearly better choice. The opposition for this fool was NOT. He was someone running as a "repuKKKe lite", and he should have won easily if he had any type of quality campaign.
I still strongly feel the same is true for how we got stuck with rand paul, mr. Turtlehead, and at least a half dozen other Senators. Representatives may be another story, somewhat, because of the gerrymandering; but the same can be said for many districts across the country. If we can't find and support strong, quality candidates to oppose these clowns, they will continue to win with Koch dollars.
Please don't confuse a respectable resume' of political offices with being a "quality candidate". Rand paul's opponent spent his time and energy attacking paul's character because he was in some silly cult in college instead of the issues that show him as a tea party quack that he was known to be.
In my home district we keep electing Jamie Herrera-Beutler because her opponents are totally unexposed and resemble no campaign at all. If good character, intelligent and possibly political experience candidates could be drafted from state legislatures or from other sources around our states, we could get these walking droids out of our federal government.

What he didn't say is that Iran's influence is expanding due to a vacuum created by the US toppling regimes or meddling in places like Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, etc. It's our fault Iran has the opportunity to expand it's power in the region.

Throughout Iran's history, the capital has been moved many times, Tehran is the 32nd national capital of Iran.
In pre-Islamic times, part of the area of present-day Tehran was occupied by Rey, now a part of the city of Tehran, which took over its role after the destruction of Rey by the Mongols in the early 13th century...
In some Middle Persian texts, Rey is given as the birthplace of Zoroaster...

I do not have a education from Harvard - but I do dam know that Tehran is the capital of Iran - and have been that for centuries - It have been the capital since 1796 - and have a population of over 8 million - in the metropolitan area over 12 million inhabitants - and is also the largest city in the western Asia! - iF i who doesn't have that much of an education can know this - then might a person who was coming out of Harvard should have the basic understanding about a country they have some issue with - and who they want going to war with.... You know - know your enemy rutine... If you can not find
The arrogance and ignorance the GOP hopefuls have in general is really scaring - you should believe a well- educated person should know better - specially if he is elected to some of the highest offices in the land, like the US Senate... This is the persons who decide if US is going to war or not - and then they can not even find the CAPITAL of a NATION on the map - and can stew all type of stupidity out in the open, regardless of the facts at hand.... This is the country we, Norway is allied with - and who we have to relay on if we ever got into a shooting match with anyone.... I think we must re-think our alliances - and maybe work closer with our european counterparts from now on... Because the insanity the GOP is showing is damaging the alliance more than even the worst of our enemies, past or future can ever dream of being able to do...
I just wonder - why is this even possible, to be elected Senator of the US - when you doesn't know where the Capital of Iran is - even if the information you Will need, is open for everyone who want to explore it on internet - it took me 1-2 seconds on google to get 15 pages of information about Tehran - information about everything, from the history of Tehran - to how the night life is in the city.... The parliament - the government offices and so one and so one.. If you have google earth, you can even zoom into the city itself - and almost walk on the streets of the city - and discover many parts of the City - all by yourself behind your PC screen... A man who is able to be elected to the US congress - and who have served a few tours in Iraq, should have been able to do that - when I could do it..

I agree - it is really frighting that this ignorance - and outright stupidity is going on - and is even infesting the halls of the government - ignorant leaders make for some really bad decisions in the end.... But I guess for the conservative movements - specially the right wings it is a shield of honor to be ignorant - and then to spew all type of ignorant stuff out in the open - and be proud of it too - even if they got to some of the best schools in the country, and should know far better...
At one time - even the conservatives loved education - and loved the thrill of getting to know how the world existed - and how they could make it better (in their view, but even then...) for most people.. Back in the days you even had conservative leader who would fight fascism and nazism when they saw it - today they ARE the fascists and Nazisms - and proud of it...
