A bar near Creighton University in Nebraska found itself in unintentional hot water last week when one of the shirts was spotted at a CU Blue Jay basketball game. The women who spotted it were drop-jawed. So they took to social media: they posted this picture:
Video & lots of reaction:

(16,423 posts)At least it seems to be an honest error as it's a hint to an inside-joke.

(2,120 posts)Someone saw it, took offense, and publicized it on social media and got a lot of reaction. I hardly call that "blind."
mythology
(9,527 posts)Yes they are parodying the legal notices saying places aren't responsible for lost or stolen items, but in the particular instance referenced, leaving off stolen would have been smarter.
That said, I don't know enough to say if it was unintentional or not. In a similar vein, I recently joked about believing that a young female gymnast I know had a faked birth certificate because she doesn't look like she's 18. Somebody else then mentioned that given she was adopted from China and given the history of China fudging gymnasts' ages, I should be careful. I didn't know she was born in China, so I wasn't taking a shot at that, but my comment could very easily have been taken poorly.

(113,329 posts)is what is blind. how hard is that to understand? pretty sure that clueless woman-hater had no idea the hatred would go viral.

(63,215 posts)If society as a whole said "meh," then that would seem indicative of such blindness.
But since we look at the shirt and say of its wearer "what an asshole," that suggests the opposite IMO.

(3,937 posts)in context of a shirt which makes light of rape. Therefore you seem to be saying that such a shirt is appropriate for a gay person to wear but not a straight person.

To me, this shirt is saying that you can't blame rape on being drunk. It's saying that people shouldn't be using 'well she was drunk!' as a excuse to justify rape. Basically, it's saying don't blame rape on being drunk, blame rape on the rapist.
I'll admit that it is very poorly worded, but I think the ideal behind it - That the fault for rape is on the rapist and not the victim no matter what their state was - is completely valid.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)while either drunk of either party (rapist or victim) or their behavior? in a poorly worded, for chuckles.....?
and you do not see how this is not a dismissal of actual rape. a joke, a grin.
damn well bet they worded it as they did (poorly), to sell the damn tshirts to a bunch of stupid ass boys.... thinking they are so cool and macho wearing out and about.
offend women and girls, meh....
fun for the guys...
Lancero
(3,003 posts)Do you think drunkenness is a excuse?
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)that is what that tshirt says. drunk RAPE! not drunk SEX!
got the difference?
see how us women are seeing it and men are not seeing it?
see the very argument that we are making?
THAT is the validation to the argument that people are so blind to rape. exactly making that point.
Lancero
(3,003 posts)That drunkenness isn't a excuse for rape.
It's what I said in my first post, the post you took offense over.
My interpretation of the shirt might be wrong, but does that make my statement that being drunk shouldn't justify or excuse rape any less true?
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)and i and others are explaining this to you, clearly. you refuse to back off your stand, a ridiculous stand, that anyone argues rape is ok.....
and ignore... dismiss.... derail the discussion..... the intent of this tshirt. blindness to rape. a joke and a giggle.
why do you refuse to address that to justify the selling and wear of this offensive tshirt?
Lancero
(3,003 posts)That a woman being drunk isn't justification for rape is true.
Is this idea wrong?

Yes... that is indeed a very creative rationalize you've constructed.
Lancero
(3,003 posts)Radical belief isn't it, that the fault for rape belongs to the rapist and not the condtion, or clothing (Because this is another thing people use to justify rape - Their victims choice in clothing) of their victim.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)and they were being cute, with the stolen "virginity" cause there is a real giggle taking a girls virginity, right?
are you really pretending this is a feminist wet dream and we should be cheering these efforts of both the bar and boy who spent money on, and wore the tshirt?
NuclearDem
(16,184 posts)I'm sure the horny drunk person will come up with that exact same reason.
Lancero
(3,003 posts)Do you think that being drunk should be a reason for forgiveness (I was drunk, I didn't know what I was doing!), or a excuse (She was drunk, but she still said yes!) for rape?
I don't.
seabeyond
(110,159 posts)Lancero
(3,003 posts)Answer me this - Who should the blame belong to for a rape?
From the responses I've seen so far, apparently saying that rapists should be blamed for rape is extremely radical. I guess some people just want to hold onto the belief that a woman beings rape upon her self by choosing to drink.

Rape apologist. Women lie about being raped, so the t-shirt is okay to poster, who basically says rape is NOT rape because women lie about it. Rape. Apologist.
JURY RESULTS

Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Agree with the alerter. Trotting out rape-apology memes is out of place here.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Misogynist troll. We know who he is.
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Agree with alerter. What is this person doing on DU?
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Stupid but not over the line. Better to add to the 11 post thread already in place.
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: This post is disturbing and disgusting and should have no home on DU. "Stolen virginity" does not equal "consent." Probably one of the worst jury services I've even been ask to participate in.
