DISGUSTING: T-Shirt Shows How Blind We Still Are To Rape Culture

A bar near Creighton University in Nebraska found itself in unintentional hot water last week when one of the shirts was spotted at a CU Blue Jay basketball game. The women who spotted it were drop-jawed. So they took to social media: they posted this picture:

Video & lots of reaction:

Yes they are parodying the legal notices saying places aren't responsible for lost or stolen items, but in the particular instance referenced, leaving off stolen would have been smarter.

That said, I don't know enough to say if it was unintentional or not. In a similar vein, I recently joked about believing that a young female gymnast I know had a faked birth certificate because she doesn't look like she's 18. Somebody else then mentioned that given she was adopted from China and given the history of China fudging gymnasts' ages, I should be careful. I didn't know she was born in China, so I wasn't taking a shot at that, but my comment could very easily have been taken poorly.

If society as a whole said "meh," then that would seem indicative of such blindness.

But since we look at the shirt and say of its wearer "what an asshole," that suggests the opposite IMO.

To me, this shirt is saying that you can't blame rape on being drunk. It's saying that people shouldn't be using 'well she was drunk!' as a excuse to justify rape. Basically, it's saying don't blame rape on being drunk, blame rape on the rapist.

I'll admit that it is very poorly worded, but I think the ideal behind it - That the fault for rape is on the rapist and not the victim no matter what their state was - is completely valid.

while either drunk of either party (rapist or victim) or their behavior? in a poorly worded, for chuckles.....?

and you do not see how this is not a dismissal of actual rape. a joke, a grin.

damn well bet they worded it as they did (poorly), to sell the damn tshirts to a bunch of stupid ass boys.... thinking they are so cool and macho wearing out and about.

that is what that tshirt says. drunk RAPE! not drunk SEX!

got the difference?

see how us women are seeing it and men are not seeing it?

see the very argument that we are making?

THAT is the validation to the argument that people are so blind to rape. exactly making that point.

That drunkenness isn't a excuse for rape.

It's what I said in my first post, the post you took offense over.

My interpretation of the shirt might be wrong, but does that make my statement that being drunk shouldn't justify or excuse rape any less true?

why do you refuse to address that to justify the selling and wear of this offensive tshirt?

Answer me this - Who should the blame belong to for a rape?

From the responses I've seen so far, apparently saying that rapists should be blamed for rape is extremely radical. I guess some people just want to hold onto the belief that a woman beings rape upon her self by choosing to drink.
