Anti-Shacking up Law repealed in Florida

It gives new meaning to the term "partner in crime."

But if you're not married and you live with a lover, you're committing a second-degree misdemeanor in Florida, one of only three states with a cohabitation law on the books.

According to 2010 census data, Florida has about 549,000 scofflaw couples among its 7.4 million households. Under the law, passed in 1868, that can mean a fine of $500 or 60 days in jail.

Three times in the last five years, legislators have unsuccessfully tried to repeal the law. On Monday, however, lawmakers made it clear they were no longer shaken up by the idea of shacking up. The repeal bill easily won approval in both House and Senate committees.

it's what we all do. besides, you still can't drive down the highway with a bear in the back of your truck in Missouri... that could land LOTS of us in hot water !

most states still have outdated laws that haven't been used in decades- or even a century or more.
