Would same day pay for employees be possible now or popular?

I've never heard this discussed before, but would same day pay for employees now be possible with the internet, and would it be of much advantage to workers? This would also probably put a lot of payday lender sharks out of business.

You would have to pay payroll people doing their thing every day, as opposed to weekly or bi-weekly. That is an extra cost business would not accept. The only places that do same day pay are day labor places.

I spent many years as an accounting manager. Our office processed large payrolls of salaried and hourly employees and to pay everyday would be impossible. But there are many things that can be done. One of the most important is to always pay on the same day and same time. The payroll for my company was semi-monthly and the accounting department would get calls about when they would be paid if the last day or first day fell on a week-end or holiday. This was spelled out in the employee manuals, but still lots of time wasted answering phone calls about it. I switched the payroll to bi-weekly paying on Wednesday in the middle of the week, so less chance of hitting a holiday date. Still had to allow several days for the personnel dept and payroll clerks to check hours, benefits, withholdings to get it all right, this takes time.

What we did (but never officially) was if any employee was having money problems and asked, we gave them an emergency loan that would be deducted from their next paycheck or if a larger amount, partial deductions over several pay periods until the loan was paid back. We watched and made sure that the employee had enough accrued vacation to cover the loan in case the employee quit, the balance of the loan could be deducted from their last paycheck. I will say that all the employees repaid their advances

We also helped employees who were sick and had used up their sick leave and were not working but needed their insurance. They were placed on leave without pay status. They would come in and pay their insurance amount to company so they would continue to be insured while they were not getting a paycheck. We helped several employees who were out for major health problems by paying for their portion of the insurance until they could return and the amounts were paid back by being deducted from their checks.

Companies can talk about how great the company is and how they have an exercise room and other extras, but these most thing to the employee is to know that when it is time to be paid, the paycheck will be there and it will correct.

The other thing a company needs to remember is that bad things happen to good employees and if the company can help the employee over a rough financial spot this benefits both the employee and the company.

many of those same policies. As a small, independent government, we could facilitate these same types of situations, helping out people individually.

We also had a program where we could 'donate' our accrued holiday time to fellow employees, privately of course, if they were seriously ill or in difficulties. I thought that was a very generous policy as well. There was one time though, way back in the day, where I asked our finance manager if I could be advanced 200 bucks for Xmas presents for my wee little girl. Rather than do all the paperwork, he just whipped out his wallet and loaned it to me. He's been the City Manager now for many, many years, and West Hollywood is one of the most prosperous cities in the USA thanks to his fantastic management and fiscal foresight and planning.

I live in France now, and believe it or not, we are only paid once a month, at the end of the month. By law we are required to be paid no later than the 6th of the next month. The only other time I came across this in the USA was while working at a stock brokerage.

That being said, banking policies are different here. If you are earning the minimum monthly wage, taking home about 1200 e per month, the banks will advance you up to half your salary over the month, to be paid automatically on your next paycheck and if you have direct deposit, which most people do. That being said, when we open a bank account, we must provide our employment contract so that the bank knows how much 'over' we are allowed. The higher your salary, the higher your overage. There is no penalty on that either, it's just how they do it. It's some good fiscal policies that really make an effort to not exploit people... Those damn socialists!!!!

Any business that accepts credit cards/debit cards or checks doesn't get that money right away and so can't pay it out right away.

Also if you take payments over time for goods/services rendered, you can't then have that available to pay employees.

Would help the little guy fend of the wanton predation of usury. So of course will never happen, doesnt reward middle men.

I work as a accountabt and can tell you its just not pratical.

Plus we pay weekly, so it shouldnt be that tough to wait until payday.

I also dont think it will put payday lenders out of business. They will still be rent payments, mortgage payments and other bills that people dont have the money for and they cost a weeks worth of pay or more.

was not having to spend this weeks paycheck this week and being able to say to my wife thats ok I'm fine for now. 'sex'

so to me I think we should try our best to get people to see that you don't have to run down to the whatever and spend your check as soon as you get it. I remember when I used to do that, I'd be broke for 5 of the 7 days each week then I finally woke up to what was going on and decided to do something about it. it was tough at first but after a while I began to relish in the thought that that pile of money was growing and I still had all the things I wanted and could really afford. Payday is just another day now, not a day where I get to go buy something or other. The freedom was being released from the clutches of gotta have it right now. The end result is I can pretty much have what I want right now, Now.

If that makes any sense
