Border Patrol kills 'suspected illegal border crosser' in Washington

Source: Bellingham Herald

A U.S. Border Patrol agent shot and killed a "suspected illegal border crosser" in the head while on patrol west of Sumas Thursday, March 19, the federal agency said.

The dead man, who was not immediately identified, assaulted the border agent in a confrontation on Kneuman Road, according to a press release. ... Multiple radio dispatches said the man suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

The agent had been hit by pepper spray but wasn’t seriously hurt, according to police radio traffic.

... U.S. Customs and Border Protection released this statement late Thursday night: "On Thursday, March 19, at approximately 2:30 p.m. PST, a U.S. Border Patrol agent on patrol along the U.S.-Canadian border near Sumas, Washington, was assaulted after an encounter with a suspected illegal border crosser. The agent discharged his service-issued weapon, fatally striking the individual. Federal Authorities including the DHS Inspector General, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Internal Affairs are coordinating the investigation with cooperation from CBP’s Border Patrol and the Law Enforcement Multi-Agency Response Team (LEMART) of Whatcom County. Details of the incident have also been provided to the FBI." "

Most people I have seen that were pepper sprayed would not be quite the marksman. One comment at the article....'Good job, keep it up!' People are just sick! Think about it. If this person were sneaking in, wouldn't it be good to question him in case he had important security information. Too late for that, the damage is done!

Ok, question the criminal sneaking over the border that just pepper sprayed you as you try to wipe the spray out of your eyes, can barely see and as you're half incapacitated allows him if he's armed to shoot you, further assault you or go for your service weapon. There's a time for questioning, but that time is not when you are being attacked.

...to shoot to kill. So many of these confrontations are dealt with the heavy hand. We all know that our police and security have undergone much different training post 911. I have been searched at the border many times and fully understand the attitude that comes with so many in the uniform. Americans returning to the U.S. by car suffer an attitude from many agents that is quite frightening...even to the innocent. That is the way they like it.

which would show some restraint, but whipping out the gun closes any testimony from the alleged border crosser.
So, the BP will shower the 'hero' with praise, and the family gets to bury the guy.
nothing to see here.

Not much more info yet, name, age, etc. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this and my first reaction was wondering if it was a tweeker or related to meth production.
