Unarmed missile launch scheduled for Sunday at VAFB

An operational test launch of an unarmed missile is scheduled to take place early Sunday morning at Vandenberg Air Force Base.

The launch of the Air Force Global Strike Command unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile is scheduled to occur between 3:51 and 9:51 a.m. from north VAFB. The purpose of the test launch program is to validate and verify the effectiveness, readiness and accuracy of the weapon system, according to Air Force Global Strike Command.

“This mission continues a long string of valuable ICBM flight tests from Vandenberg Air Force Base," said Col. Keith Balts, 30th Space Wing commander, who is the launch decision authority. "It clearly demonstrates the capability of both the Minuteman III weapon system and those who maintain and operate it, to include the hundreds of professionals across the (Department of Defense) who are critical to each test launch.”
