General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIMO, DU will not last until the general election if Hillary runs. If She doesn't run
DU will be in total chaos and worthless to the Democratic Party.
Great post especially since I can't tell if you like her or not.
You hit the nail on the head though.

It will be fine.
If HRC wins the nomination, most of us that are bitching and moaning right now will embrace and support her campaign and the rest will just hunker down and wait for the election to end.

(10,044 posts)It's hard to predict. What I think will happen is that very quietly and sorrowfully some will accept her as nominee. Others will very quietly go to PRDP (Populist Reform of the Democratic Party) and plan, either to form another party and call it something like the Reformed Democrats, or Progressive Party. Or form a new group in DU whose posters will be able to complain in peace without being alerted on as trolls or subversives....
Win or Lose, DU will not be the same. It'll exist, but with new groups who more appropriately mirror the beliefs of the disenchanted and disappointed Democrats, whose party was stolen by a group of DLC people who likes to make fun of their liberalism...
I wonder where President Obama will fit into all this. What could he say to bring everyone together, not just in DU, but all the Democrats? I doubt if anything he says will do any good - the last election was lost by candidates who proclaimed they were "Hillary Democrats."

End of story.

(46,179 posts)and DU's generally dysfunctional partisan bickering and faux "unity" after the convention will continue on as usual. Should HRC be nominated, the vast majority of DUers will drink her kool aid, at least until after the GE.

(861 posts)and so, it doesn't matter how "useful" it is to the party. At least, that is what it says in the "about" section, that it is not affiliated with the Dem party.

(26,117 posts)To think a discussion board has any actual effect on politics is ludicrous.
DU is useful to DUers who want to talk about politics (or fight about politics, or snark at each other over politics, etc.), but it doesn't have any affect on how elections turn out.

(36,418 posts)It may not sway the party apparachiks very often, and we certainly don't reflect the middle, but it tells them something about how the progressives think and what we're thinking about. Sometimes, we may even stumble upon inconvenient facts that might be troublesome if ignored.
No, DU will continue to be useful so long as we don't become just the cheap seats of the cheering section.

(3,431 posts)there will be the unavoidable continuation of pro versus
con, which by now will get rather boring.
If she will decide not to run, then things will become
fascinating on this board. Actually it will be the most
interesting discussion hopefully without any DC input.
If you really think that this internet group has any
influence on the Dems, please, wake up. This is
a self-serving group who likes to share news, opinions,
and individual expressions. Nothing more.
Chaos? well, that lies in the eye of the beholder.

(99,714 posts)1) George Pataki and Scott Walker aren't getting anywhere near the White House unless they are there as guests or on a tour.
2) I can see this electoral cycle leading to DU's effective demise.
3) All the Clinton support supporters will be driven from this site by the constant hectoring and when she wins the primaries the only people left will be those that oppose her in the general and active support for the independent candidate is prohibited on this site.

(30,481 posts)The site will be just fine. The beauty of Hillary is that republicans cannot hide their disgust of her. Not only is she a powerful woman but a progressive to boot. The trolls here will not be able to contain themselves if she is victorious in the primaries. Time to get the anti-Hillary posters, who have been pathetically trolling as progressives, out of here. This place will be worlds better when all of these trolls can no longer control themselves.
