Obama. Worst President ever!!!!

Last edited Sun Mar 22, 2015, 10:19 PM - Edit history (1)

U.S. Recovers $3.3 Billion in Federal Health-Care Fraud

Obama administration steps up efforts to prevent Medicare fraud, not just uncover it
A sign above the boarded-up Riverside General Hospital Wellness Center in Houston last year. The former president of Riverside Hospital and three other employees were convicted in a Medicare scheme to steal $158 million from the federal government.

WASHINGTON--The government recovered $3.3 billion in fiscal 2014 from individuals and companies that tried to defraud federal health programs, part of an effort by the Obama administration to improve enforcement and prevent abusive billing practices.

The administration recovered $7.70 for every dollar spent investigating health-care-related fraud and abuse in the past three years, according to a report to be released Thursday by the Health and Human Services Department and Justice Department. That marks the third-highest return on investment since the antifraud program was launched nearly two decades ago,
the report said.

“These impressive recoveries for the American taxpayer demonstrate our continued commitment to this goal and highlight our efforts to prosecute the most egregious instances of health-care fraud and prevent future fraud and abuse,” HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said in a statement.

The Obama administration has been intensifying its focus on fraud and waste by preventing abuse and cutting the time from when fraud is identified and an arrest is made. The recoveries, while substantial, are small compared to the estimated fraud in the system.

And that is why single payer is needed.

When if they'd do a little research they'd find that yes he did accomplish most of what he said he would and what he didn't or wasn't able to wasn't even by any stretch his fault. Zero? The next number closest to zero?

Any idea how I came up with that estimate?

Now don't torture yourself over it. It's as easy as N-S-A.

Just multiply the number of Wall Street fraud convictions by the mortgage derivative.

Then divide us by the Ferguson constant of no prosecutions.

Add in the factor of self-regulation and privatization and you get...

Patience while I offshore this math thing to India where I can save some money...

While we wait...

The US has just 5% of world's population and 25% of worlds prison population.

Wonder how many prison residents are Wall Street Pharma, Hospital and insurance executives fucking us over on a daily basis?

Hang on let me compute that...

sqrt(net worth * campaign funds) / distance to reach across the aisle + convenience factor * time til election / tax breaks = ...

Dang.

A possible explanation for this discrepancy was uncovered during the course of our second federal investigation, conducted by the Civil Rights Division to determine whether Ferguson Police officials have engaged in a widespread pattern or practice of violations of the U.S. Constitution or federal law.

As detailed in our searing report – also released by the Justice Department today – this investigation found a community that was deeply polarized; a community where deep distrust and hostility often characterized interactions between police and area residents.

A community where local authorities consistently approached law enforcement not as a means for protecting public safety, but as a way to generate revenue. A community where both policing and municipal court practices were found to disproportionately harm African American residents. A community where this harm frequently appears to stem, at least in part, from racial bias – both implicit and explicit. And a community where all of these conditions, unlawful practices, and constitutional violations have not only severely undermined the public trust, eroded police legitimacy, and made local residents less safe – but created an intensely charged atmosphere where people feel under assault and under siege by those charged to serve and protect them.

indeed convictions. Perhaps not worthy of the "in your face" pronouncements of your OP, but certainly there were more than zero convictions. I couldn't find nearly enough to add up to 3.3 billion, though. I still suspect most of the money was recovered without criminal prosecution since that is the preferred approach of DoJ during Obama's term.

And, indeed, the data at the link below does support an increase in recovery during Obama's term over Bush.

I was wrong. The data was actually quite useful and I did learn something.

49. Nice and agree. The data is there and that enforcement group is getting convictions. However, if
Mon Mar 23, 2015, 01:14 AM
Mar 2015

we consider an average fraud rate of 5% (est. 3% - 10%) against $500,000,000 of medicare expenditures we have $25 billion of outstanding fraud to be recovered.

3.3 billion is about a 12% recovery rate and it isn't great but it is better than nothing.

I will also concede that money recovered has increased a bit during Obama's term as shown here.

https://oig.hhs.gov/reports-and-publications/hcfac/

My main objection to the OP is that the $3.3 billion this year (2014) is far from an amazing achievement and hardly warrants the over-the-top celebration as if Goldman Sachs CEO was just put in jail for fraud, or Cheney was just convicted of running a torture program.

We still have a very long way to go.

but then you may not have appreciated the true
value of Carter. I was very happy to vote for a change,
which however did not come as I had hoped for. Mind you
I realize the difficulty with Congress.

But if the check on Medicare fraud is his accomplishment
then I laud him for that and here is a short reason for that:

I had some trouble with my foot, had it checked by
orthopedic doctors and then was referred to Neurology.
I did not mind the tests, but taking 15x blood seemed
a bit odd and over the top. My foot got well without
any help from the MDs. Medicare, I found, refused to
pay for 7 of the blood samples. Reading the TIME report
on the way hospitals try to make money from just such
samples, I was happy that Medicare refused to pay.

However, I have an orthopedic surgeon in my family
who asked me:What if these samples were really
necessary? Would you have gone to court over that?

I don't know the perfect answer to these questions,
but am still very happy that Medicare refused to pay.

Why is it only Dems worry about the social safety net? Or better yet, why is it only the Left side that thinks about others? IMO, we should have nipped this in the bud with Reagan or our parents should have with Nixon.

People should have shut the factories down. Stopped the traffic. The GOP should have been called to the carpet in front of the nation. NOW their twisted philosophy is coveted by evil bastards that work for RAND/CATO America Heritage etc.. they warped their own sick nature into an economic/sociological/psychological way of life. So far warped even from their Nuclear Family in the 50s and 60s.

The GOP is the core of the corruption on the system. Nobody has to remember back far to know the names of ENRON and Halliburton. Or Silverado Savings & Loans. They all have in common? Corrupt big wigs that were shoveling money into the GOP coffers. I think the same burning hatred of Obama is somewhat the same that they had for Jimmy Carter.

Growing up at around 5 or 6, I thought Jimmy Carter was the most wonderful man on the planet. I marveled at his southern mannerisms, his always respect for common courtesy. Then there was his career. I wanted to grow up and be an astronaut. Jimmy Carter was the commander of a nuclear sub, is an ordained minister, a successful businessman, has a PHD. I really didn't understand all those concepts at 6, but what I did know is that he had accomplished a lot and was a zillion times cooler than an astronaut.

He was like Luke Sky walker, just older and cooler. Han Solo would have been Bill Clinton. And now in my 40s, Obama is like Yoda.

Anyway, I think there was a huge amount of resentment and professional jealousy thrown at all three good men. All three still concerned about the social fabric that basically holds us all together as a nation.

It's the same shit, just a different year sheshe2 - jelly ass morons like Cheney and bitter people like Linda Tripp. Just wait, you know that old chestnut will appear in the next two years.

Haters gonna hate, lovers gonna love.

I still love Jimmy Carter, he is a bad ass jedi master in my book. I wonder if he still helps build homes for the needy? Meanwhile GOP exes are painting pictures of flowers and puppies.

Are you interested in volunteering for the 2015 Carter Work Project in Nepal?

Habitat for Humanity’s 32nd annual Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project will take place Nov. 1-6, 2015, in Nepal.

Habitat for Humanity Nepal will host the event, which will bring President and Mrs. Carter together with thousands of volunteers for a weeklong build to help improve neighborhoods and raise awareness about affordable housing. This event is part of Habitat Nepal’s ambitious goal of helping 100,000 Nepali families have decent shelter by 2016.

As Habitat CEO Jonathan Reckford shared during his Carter Work Project 2014 closing ceremony remarks, we celebrated all that was accomplished in Texas, but we know there is so much more to build.

For more than three decades, the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project has served as a catalyst for raising awareness about the need for improved access to affordable housing by empowering people to bring hope, stability and housing solutions to their communities. To date, more than 92,000 volunteers have built, renovated and repaired 3,943 homes in 14 countries during the previous 31 annual events, shedding light on the role decent housing provides families in breaking the cycle of poverty.

The 2015 Carter Work Project will begin 31 days after President Carter’s 91st birthday. Join President and Mrs. Carter, the people of Nepal and thousands of volunteers from around the world to build homes and change lives by joining the 2015 Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project.

Why doesn't someone tell me these things?
I'm always the last to know.

Damn, I wonder if I will ever be normal again.
Probably not.

Moving on.

By the way, you really need to listen to Richard Pryor's long comedy bit as Mudbone, a character/alter ego that he created long ago.
I think that bit of his is on his "Richard Pryor: Live on the Sunset Strip" album.
He tells a story of a dam breaking . . . and well, it's about the funniest damn thing I ever heard in my whole life.
