Full story at LINK
Ford has spent the past two years on a journey to get healthy. Once weighing 474 pounds, she has lost over 200 pounds and decided to enter the race as her latest fitness challenge. After training for months, Ford started to struggle during the fourth mile. Police Lt. Aubrey Gregory, who was working at the event, noticed she was in pain and asked if she wanted to stop.
But she would not be defeated. Ford told him she wanted to complete the race. Inspired by her determination, Gregory decided to do what he could do to help her reach the finish line. Grabbing Ford's hand, the two walked the rest of the course arm-in-arm and ultimately finished the race together. While Ford did finish last, the reaction she received from the crowd was fit for a champion.

Again: both people are winners.

(1,408 posts)She's lost 200 lbs. THAT'S AWESOME!!
It is so hard to even move when you are extremely overweight.
I've hit a wall after losing 100 lbs. I still have much more to go, but at least I haven't gained any back.
Kudos Asia. Same to Officer Gregory.
Both an inspiration in different ways.

(1,408 posts)All encouragement appreciated.
Being bedridden doesn't help matters any and then some health problems that subsided, reappeared but I think that they may be subsiding again.
The arthritis was the worst. Could barely move arms, hands or legs for over 2 months. just getting to where I can type for more than a few minutes at a time. Afib and asthma kept kicking up too.
Changed and adjusted meds so finally feel like I'm almost human again. Dusting off dumb bells, wrist and ankle weights. Hoping to start trying to stand in 4-6 weeks.
Thanks again.
ProdigalJunkMail
(12,017 posts)but just move a little more every day. i have fortunately been ambulatory throughout my weightloss but i certainly need the encouragement from time to time.
glad you got the meds worked out and are getting ready to rock and roll!
have a great day!

(12,017 posts)you can do this... we're with you... you can make it...
this is what we all need in life. we all have struggles and sometimes, just having someone there to whisper in our ears that we CAN make it and that they're here with us through the struggle is all we need!
good on him for being there... and FANTASTIC for her for sticking it out and making such a radical move toward health!

(3,212 posts)According to one of the commenters at the link, this guy is a great role model coaching peewee football.
But the main story is surely about Asia, who is a wonderful role model for all of us who struggle with weight issues. Definitely makes me reconsider whether or not I should be doing "more" to lose the weight I'm trying to lose.

(30,250 posts)I'm not a big fan of cops in general, but like in any group of people, some are good and some are not. This officer was kind and compassionate to Ms. Ford. I read on another site a commenter mention that he also coaches kids (I don't recall in which sport). That he had coached this person's son and that he was very popular with the kids. He appears to be a good person.

(1,591 posts)an extremely sweet lady, she broke down a little during the interview.
She worked hard, committed to getting into better shape, set a goal and with just a little extra support from her son and the officer she made it. It was a great interview.
