Anyone else here curious if Jon Huntsman will Toss his Hat in to the Ring?

Dear Governor Huntsman,

This letter comes at a hard time for our nation, a time of abundant suspicion and lasting cynicism. Trusting in our politicians has become a punch-line—a joke that echoes around the campaign trail. Being a statesman seems to become harder each and every day.

We know you know this.

Before the founding of this republic, American leaders stood up and fought an empire. Our nation’s Fathers came together—despite differences in opinion. The common bond of liberty and individualism united the 13 colonies. Benjamin Franklin declared that "we must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately." Those were grave times.

President Lincoln held the Republic together during a civil war that tested whether a "nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal" could, in fact, endure and survive. Those were grave times. Grave times call for great leaders.

We still believe in the principles of our nation’s founders.

We still believe in the words of President Lincoln.

We want to believe in President Huntsman.

We have faith in you, Governor. We have faith because the call to serve transcends politics and horse races. We know that Jon2016.com and your campaign for President will be hard, and that they might even fail. These campaigns may have false starts, but they will have real hope and real promise. These campaigns are working for something greater than any one individual.

The American people are asking for something greater than a poll or pundit’s choice. They are asking a patriot to act on his call to duty. You said it best, Governor:

"I will always put my country first."

Anything that moves the GOP further away from their fringe will be good for the country. The political center in this country has moved way, way too far to the right, and a more moderate GOP would mean a more liberal Democratic Party.

I think he could be a serious, strong challenger to the Democrat - likely Hillary Clinton. He seems genuinely moderate(yes seems - as perception matters here), he is very wealthy, and he has several very personable well spoken daughters who could act as additional surrogates. (Just as Chelsea will). Not to mention - I would imagine that if he won the nomination, in the general election he would use the fact that he was highly praised by most Democrats when he was nominated as Ambassador to China ..... under Secretary Clinton.

I am not saying he could win - but he could be thought of as a more personable, likable "Mitt Romney" without the baggage.

The Republicans have several possible choices, but none without hefty baggage.

I never liked the idea that you should hope the opponents pick the least acceptable candidate.

I suspect that it would take the Republicans sticking to the legally sane ones AND the response to whether the country is headed in the right direction going way below 50% -- assuming (as I do) that the Democratic candidate preforms reasonably. (I like the current direction of the trend - 53 for very well and fairly well is a good sign and (even without plotting them) you can see the trend is that it is going up.) I have followed this series, which at times has been disheartening -- but if this keeps up - it's good for us. http://pollingreport.com/right.htm (For comparison, look at what McCain was fighting - with the Republicans holding the WH, it was 16 immediately before the election. (Note there is a poll below the top one by Gallup that asks the question differently - as satisfied, dissatisfied that has very different results - but we are about the same as when Obama won in 2012 -- still way above 2008, but bizarrely lower than 2004.

Hillary (or any other Democrat) will be in far better shape if the economy and foreign policy are seen as going in the right direction.
