Father arrested for break-in while investigating daughter's disappearance

Norfolk police arrested the father of a missing Virginia teen on Saturday after he broke into a home and punched a dog.

Wesley Hadsell, 36, said he was looking for clues in the disappearance of his 18-year-old daughter, Anjelica, who went missing March 2. He's convinced Anjelica was kidnapped, and broke into the home of the person he believes took his daughter against her will, police said.

"I want my daughter home," Hadsell told WAVY. "That's what I want, and that's all I want. Anybody who wants to say something about that or get in the way of that, then I'm sorry. So what, some ways are unorthodox. I didn't have anything to do with her disappearance. I don't know where she's at."

He said he spent about 18 minutes inside the house, and punched the family dog out of anger.

Hadsell said he found his daughter's jacket in the house, "rolled up behind (a couch) cushion." Police wouldn't comment on that, but said that they haven't ruled out foul play in the case of the missing teen.

Police continue to search for the teen.

If that jacket did belong to the missing teen and was behind a cushion that would raise an eyebrow. And I am sure its something the police will love to follow up on if they can. But they got to be smart about it. This kind of thing can be challenged if there were a trial.

You feel bad for the guy since he's a parent who has a kid missing, but you can't be busting into people's homes (and punching their dog) just because you have a suspicion. It's also very dangerous. If that homeowner was home and had a gun, he can shoot that father.

So if defense attorney were to claim that the jacket was planted, I don't think it would be too hard to believe.

Wesley Hadsell was arrested on rape and kidnapping charges in 2005 after allegedly abducting his estranged wife in Ohio. The couple has since divorced, according to court records, and Wesley remarried. Records on whether Hadsell was convicted on those charges weren’t immediately available. According to news articles from the time of the incident, Hadsell’s ex-wife was found two weeks after she disappeared.

Hadsell told WAVY that he has “made mistakes” in the past, but “I’ve been out of trouble for over 10 years, and I do have successful employment at a business and stuff like that and a good family.”

And god help him if it's revealed he planted that jacket just because he 'thinks' the neighbor had something to do with it...

And as others mentioned, that father is *very* lucky nobody was home and he didn't end up getting shot for breaking in...Folks in this area have been shot for a lot less...

to get those warrants, in general a policy I very strongly agree with, on rare occasions however it leaves the police in a position where they can not do anything.

As a parent, it is what I would want to do, especially if I felt the cops were not doing everything they could. Before the admonishments start, I am simply stating what could be the man's motivation (not condoning, supporting, or encouraging)... Luckily, I have never been in that situation.

I'm sure he's upset, but you don't hit a dog because you're upset, at least the vast majority of people would not...guy has some issues besides anger over the disappearance of his daughter, who I hope is ok.

And I suspect we'll learn that her disappearance may have a lot to do with the fact that he is an asshole.

if they actually did, my reaction might not have been too different from this guy's.

Right up to the point where he punched the dog that is. I don't think I ever let my emotions get the better of me to the point where I took it out on an innocent animal.

Anybody capable of such an act might have anger issues which might influence his kid to get the hell out.
