HHS: Hospitals saved billions under ObamaCare
By Sarah Ferris - 03/23/15 11:09 AM EDT

A massive expansion of insurance programs like Medicaid and a drop in emergency room visits saved hospitals at least $7.4 billion over the last year, the Obama administration announced Monday.

With millions more people covered under ObamaCare last year, hospitals faced fewer bills from patients who lacked insurance and were unable to pay. Hospitals also saw fewer emergency room visits, which rack up far higher costs and often leave hospitals with the tab.

The costs of those services — known as uncompensated care — dropped by one-fifth nationwide in 2014, according to a government report released Monday.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) released the findings to mark the fifth year since the passage of ObamaCare.

developed by our Republican governor.

We have small hospitals closing, others on the brink, but "no to Obamacare" won in the GOP legislature here.
It was unbelievable, except for the fact that is the TN GOP legislature.

14. Someone's getting rich off of single payer!

Because corporations do get plenty of profit from Medicaid and Medicare. If everyone was covered universally under single payer, they would be rolling around in guaranteed profits forever!

If you think about it, single payer really is the most pro-business plan.

7. About 2/3rds of hospitals in the US are non for profit. The rest are government or for profit.

When someone has insurance they are able to go to a walk-in clinic or urgent care clinic and do not need to rely on an emergency dept. for health care. Thus the hospital is free to take care of true emergencies. Waiting rooms were, in previous years, packed with Patients who had no insurance whatsoever. According to COBRA and EMTALA laws an ER cannot turn anyone away. Some for profit hospitals were charging fees up front in order to be seen by a nurse practitioner or doctor.
Uncompensated care, as mentioned above, was a huge deficit for healthcare organizations and it affected, and still does to a much lesser degree, all who try to deliver a high level of healthcare to all.

Check out what Rubio and Ryan have planned. Ryan would allow states to OPT OUT of the ACA mandates. What a cop-out. Leave it to the States to be the bad guys! Coward. And despite all the complaints by right wingers about taxpayers having to pay the bill, the GOP plans are financed by the government too! When you have citizens who can't afford healthcare, you have to help them financially. There is no way around that. ACA is saving money, a good thing.

These hospitals might tell their lobbyists -- and, yes, even the non-profits have well-paid lobbyists -- to share that good news with Senators and Representatives.
Unless, of course, they have a conflict of interest in so doing.
