Could the whole thing be a joke???
Some evidence in favor:
His father fought for communist Castro, and he himself was born in another country to a US citizen mother. Unlike the Kenya of Birther lore, however, the country is Canada. If that's not a Kaufmanesque take on the Birther charges, what is???
He goes to Harvard, and becomes notorious for suggesting he won't study with people who went to "minor Ivies," like Brown or the University of Pennsylvania. That's actually a good fucking joke about Ivy League snobbery. It can't be real!
His wife works for Goldman Sachs, a fact that he doesn't have to mention at all, but instead trumpets loudly on the very day after his Presidential announcement. This is surely parody!
He announces at Liberty University at a session that students are not at liberty to miss. 'Zat you, Andy?
He spends years railing about Obamacare, then immediately signs up for it as soon as he starts running for President.
Oh my Gawd? Is the whole thing a massive troll?

He probably won't melt. I doubt he even sweats (I'm sure he considers it beneath him). All the Brylcreem in his hair might drip down his face, though.
I'm feeling a little catty this morning.

(65,616 posts)You hit the nail on the head! Maybe the GOP party heads got nervous with Nixon almost going to or possibly going to prison. That would make him the first POTUS in history to do so. They also knew how easy it was to manipulate people or mostly their electorate (thanks to Hoover and McCarthy). So they found a C-actor that sounded like John Wayne and Charles Heston's dad and down the rabbit hole we went!
I bet even in those days, they had no idea how easily it would be in the long run to manipulate the mind of a conservative voter. Or the libertarian ones as well.

(70,239 posts)made billy out to be a buffoon. i still cant believe that worked.
then let/had the saudis string him up by the short hairs.
and it worked on clinton, too. to my last breath, i know monica was sent. the only thing worse than him falling in that honey trap was showing he was stupid enough to fall in that honey trap.
but we finally have a pres who is too smart to fall into such simple traps.

(65,616 posts)Year after year after year...a bigger crime, a bigger political scandal, a bigger economic meltdown, more money wasted, more military professionals killed, more civilians killed, more wars, more inflation...on and on and on it goes.
All they have to do is out crazy someone from last year and we all shift to the right. Why? Because we lost our minds after the stolen election in 2000 and (probably) 2004. We just pretended that a coup never happened between Baker and the GOPers on the SCOTUS.
Was, rinse, repeat. The bad thing now is that there are certain people from our own party that have no problems hippie bashing, but NEVER EVER call out these continuing gross violations of the law or actually ACT on these GOP criminals. If you want to call what happened to Foley and Delay 'trying' then we have failed miserably as a party.
I'm old enough to remember when my party made a big stand against cutting social programs or standing with the POTUS.

(60,010 posts)I was reading today that if an American citizen has a baby outside of the US, the parents must file a notice of birth with the US
Consulate ASAP.
If the notice is not filed, or not filed promptly, it could adversely impact the kid's citizenship status.
Wonder if that was the law when he was born, and if so, if the papers were filed?

IF THAT happens...we will need to start a betting pool. Some of you are far more up on the Kaufmanesque mythos than I am.
