We do it in the form of massive tax write offs for their relocation expenses. This contributes to the budget deficit, so basically you and I are paying the fat cats to kill our jobs and move operations offshore. Obama proposed legislation to stop this practice, but the repukes blocked it in the senate.
Another one is that the current account deficit (trade deficit) created by free trade contributes to the budget deficit. When USA workers lose their jobs to offshoring, we the taxpayers have to pay for benefits such as unemployment and food stamps. The unemployed workers are no longer paying taxes, so the government has less revenue. The only way to make it up is raise taxes are cut benefits. We lose, the fat cats win.
Oh, don't forget that even the threat of moving jobs offshore contributes to our problem. Workers are willing to work for less pay just to keep what little they have now.
Just a couple of examples you rarely hear mentioned about the death spiral created by our free trade policies the past 30 years.

(3,795 posts)The Dems passed a bill that would end this in the House under Pelosi's leadership, and Republicans in the Senate filibustered and stopped it from passing.
Ostensibly, if it had passed the Senate Obama would have signed it and this practice would have ceased in this country.
This would resonate with American voters in a MASSIVE way. It would expose Republicans in a big, big way, and it would show the American People that the Democratic Party was actively working to make this country better for average Americans.
So, WHY haven't Democrats used this golden opportunity against the Republicans?
It's infuriating how many times the Democrats let Republicans get away with shit like this.
Corporations are STILL financially incentivized to move our jobs offshore. Just how many Americans would STRONGLY dislike that fact and would STRONGLY support legislation to stop it? A helluva lot.
