Goodnight, Goodluck Jonathan. Opposition wins Nigerian elections

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/03/31/nigeria-election-winner_n_6978278.html

Opposition challenger Muhammadu Buhari has won Nigeria's presidential election with 15.4 million votes against incumbent Goodluck Jonathan's 13.3 million, a Reuters tally of votes in all of its 36 states showed on Tuesday.

This is a hugely significant moment in Nigeria's history - never before has a sitting president lost an election, the BBC's Will Ross reports from Abuja.

This guy was terrible. Unfortunately in Nigeria, the next guy isn't likely to be any more effective than the last guy

When Boko Haram abducted hundreds of girls, he basically shrugged his shoulders and did nothing. I wanted him to lose for that alone.

Petty, yes, but I just hated that guy.

But things are very complicated and there's a lot of conspiracies about Boko haram that I don't know what to think anymore. But all but a few Nigerians I know support Buhari and they support him for the stupidest reasons ever.

One tells me that the Naira is losing value all the time against the dollar but just about every currency is doing that against the strong dollar. Also the price of oil is down, oil price is down for everybody and Buhari can defeat boko haram because they will quite down once we have a hausa leader. But why appease the terrorists by giving them a hausa leader?

I don't like Buhari and I don't like that the British, French and the Americans support him.

The old dictator is coming back to rule again. I mean, who do I blow for this misfortune?

Buhari hasn't won anything the election commission is still counting. They are yet to declare a winner in this closely contested election. Declaring victory before the votes have been counted is dangerous. Nigeria is not America where news stations can declare victory before ballots have been counted. The western owned Reuters cannot declare a winner in Nigerian elections, things work differently down there.

I hope this is just premature BS and this killer did not win the election. But then again, this just shows the divide in Nigeria, the Hausas and some Yourba's do not want an Igbo leader no matter how good he/she is, the Igbos and some Yoruba's do not want a Hausa leader no matter how good he/she is. So the best solution for everybody will be for the country to be divided, the people who support killers on one side and everybody else go the other way.

This so called victory if true is historic only in the sense that Nigeria will be going back in time where opposition leaders are disappeared by the presidents men and Nigeria is saddled with more IMF and world bank developmental debt.

God help us all.

...I don't think they're getting the Nigerian equivalent of MacArthur.

In a related matter, Goodluck Jonathan sent me a letter asking if I could help him transfer his assets out of the country. Apparently he's willing to pay me for my assistance...

But a peaceful transition driven by election results is progress, for sure!

"a peaceful transition driven by election results is progress, for sure!"

Never before has a sitting president been defeated in an election. Yours I think, is the more material and relevant story here... being passed over in favor of "someone tell me if I should like this guy or not" Observers have (generally) praised the electoral process, and it seems as though the transition of power will be smooth and without dramatic incident.
