And ... we simply will not confront what overpopulation is doing to our planet and to us.

The right thinks that supply-side economics and/or their god will insure a never-ending supply of resources for us.

The left doesn't want to talk about this for fear of offending some disadvantaged group and because they are confident that technology will somehow solve the problem.

Dealing with human overpopulation -- still the biggest political-social taboo.

It is now catching up wish us. Everything from global warming to huge islands of trash in the mostly fished out pacific, to destroying the lungs of the world for a few years worth of crops that get exported to rich countries..

One of a number of areas where our animal instincts seem to outweigh our intelligence.

We're choking in our own garbage. Since most don't see or recognize this in their daily lives, they don't want to believe it....even a few here on DU (if they're still here).

Move over, kpete. I need to go cry too.

I swear - every time I walk our dog in our neighborhood, I am aghast at the shit along the curbs. Litter all over the place. Empty coffee cups, lids of every size, wrappers, plastic, plastic forks and spoons, cigarette butts, empty snack bags, take-out containers of paper and cardboard and styrofoam, those repulsive little plastic dental floss thingies - just thrown down and left ON THE GROUND! It's DISGUSTING. I wind up having to take several poo bags with me every time. One for her poo, and at least one more for all the crap people have littered the curbs and gutters with. People in my neighborhood are pigs. They don't pick up after their kids. They don't pick up after their gardeners. The construction and other work crews don't pick up after themselves - and you'd think if there was that mess going on in front of YOUR house or apartment building, maybe YOU might feel just a wee bit responsible for keeping the place orderly.

Every one of those pieces of trash pisses me off. Every one that I see makes me think - well, there's something some little sea creature or bird will swallow and then starve to death or drown. (That last photo just hurts my heart!) There's something else in the flood-control channel/in Santa Monica Bay/in the Pacific Trash Gyre. Hell, in ONE OF THE Pacific Trash GyreS. Plural. There's more than one of 'em.

Disgraceful!!!! Looks like hell! Some people in our neighborhood don't even bother to pick up what their dog(s) did!!! They just leave it there and disappear. It PISSES ME OFF! I guess they just leave it for somebody else to pick up. Like me. And I DO. Because I'll be damned if anybody's gonna think it was MY dog and ME as a shitty, selfish, callous, negligent, thoughtless, entitled dog owner. I cannot believe how much I have to clean up around this neighborhood - just in the space of two blocks. It's just astonishing. And completely REVOLTING!!!!

SHAME on them!!!!!
