The store received a barrage of ridicule and negative response and got into financial trouble. Meanwhile, the owners set up a GoFundMe-page and got $500k in donations from various conservative donors supporting their stance.
The store is closed. The owners and the money have gone into hiding...

(80 posts)1. Seeing that the owner has to pay taxes on $460,000
and IRS will be chasing after him.
It's not considered "gift" and should not be considered as a gift.

the taxes won't be a problem, as long as they aren't too stupid to actually declare it.

so it is still taxable. Not cash.

(2,120 posts)10. Why would the donations not be considered gifts?
They are certainly not deductible contributions that the donors can deduct, but why wouldn't they be considered gifts to the recipient? Why would they be taxable?
Not defending anyone or anything, just a question about the tax code.

(24,254 posts)9. The page was started by a radio show. If they give the pizza people all the money they still have
a tax liability.
People have given a radio show host 750,000 dollars, not the pizza place so that's how stupid and hateful the donors are
There's some serious money to be made off their hate.
