Louisiana Principal Determined To Ruin Prom For Bad-A** Tux-Wearing Lesbian Honors Student *UPDATE*

Last edited Wed Apr 8, 2015, 08:09 AM - Edit history (1)

Priorities! Carroll High School in Monroe, Louisiana, has them! Claudetteia Love is 17, she is a top honors student headed to college on a full scholarship, and she would like to go the prom with her friends. She would also like to wear a tuxedo, because that’s what she’s most comfortable in. All of this is great, except for the fact that she is a damn lesbian, and they just don’t take kindly to that sort of thing in MON-roe (spelled phonetically for non-Southern readers, for future reference):

....

According to Love, Principal Patrick Taylor has pulled right out of his bayou ass a policy that says that girls must wear dresses to the prom, essentially arguing that “boys have a penis, girls have a vagina.” Apparently this is important to people, somewhere, because the only fitting finishing accessory for a tuxedo is a good old all-American penis.

But Love’s sister Mignon says she heard teachers talking about it, and apparently it was all rude comments about her sister’s sexuality, BIG SURPRISE.

....

Love tells USA Today that she’s fighting for this for the sake of younger girls who will come after her and face the same stuff. Prom discrimination against lesbians has certainly happened before! Several years back, in neighboring Mississippi, a group of asshole teenagers created a fake prom to keep student Constance McMillen from attending the REAL PROM with her girlfriend. In the end, of course, McMillen won, because she got to go on the Ellen Show, and all the rest of the students who were mean to her are still humping their sisters in Northeast Mississippi. Our advice to Ms. Love is to STAY BY YOUR PHONE, especially since Ellen DeGeneres is from Louisiana too.

Update: After hearing of Love's plight from members of the community who saw The News-Star's article, Monroe City School Board President Rodney McFarland contacted The News-Star to say that he will take action on Love's behalf.

McFarland said he will contact Superintendent Brent Vidrine and request that he discuss the rule with the school's principal.

"As school board president, I don't agree with Carroll banning her from her prom just because of what she wants to wear -- that's discrimination," he said. "As far as I know there is no Monroe City School Board policy saying what someone has to wear to attend the prom. You can't just go making up policies."

that was popular in the early days and was brought over from Europe.

A way for young people to dress as adults, so to speak, for the first time, and to be "presented" to society, albeit limited to their classmates.

Back in 1978 -- AT A FRICKIN' CATHOLIC ALL-GIRLS SCHOOL! -- a classmate of mine wore a baby blue tux with baby blue Converse high tops to our prom. That the Dominican sisters 30+ years ago were more forward thinking that this idiot is appalling.

of Catholic school, but I have to admit that we were taught hard science and openly learned about/debated issues such as abortion, premarital sex/living together, & the roles of women in society. I was just at a recent high school reunion with around 30 of my fellow classmates. Several of them are now "out" who openly talked about about and showed pictures of their wives/families. I am proud to say that there was not ONE woman -- including the Sisters who were attendance -- who was anything but positive and welcoming.

while the rest are all DIY (one minister, one congregation, with nobody checking up on either), allowing for Duggars and Wacos and FLDSes and Carrie's mom

my devout Catholic relatives from the Continent are all gobsmacked that half the country thinks the Earth's 10,000 years old, but here it's set up so that one single eccentric can determine how 40% of the country thinks

of course none of this came to power naturally in the late 70s with the Reagan Coalition, and even the SoBapts needed a coup to get the way they are today

things could've gone so much differently, and the pendulum will swing once more: we just have to make sure it's being ridden by Warrens rather than Clintons

Super Rad Louisiana Lesbian Will Dance At Her Prom In A Tuxedo After All!

Well that was fast! On Monday, we told the story of a really cool high-school kid in Monroe, Louisiana, named Claudetteia Love. She’s an out lesbian, and she just wanted to wear a damn tuxedo to her prom, because she likes them. What could be wrong with that? Oh, the “lesbian” part, that’s what tripped up the school principal and some of the asshole adults who make up the faculty at Carroll High School. So the principal, Patrick Taylor, went and made up a new rule that said “no lesbians in tuxes at the prom,” because boys have a penis and girls have a vagina, or something, and Love and her friends decided they would just skip it.

Oh, but then it made national news! And then the National Center For Lesbian Rights decided to represent her, and the shaming was begunneth. Several days of that internet shaming, along with the snarky assist from the NCLR, seems to have fixed it up good, so go pick out your tux, Claudetteia, you and your BFFs are going to the ball!

....

That’s right! We are sure that there is somebody in the situation who will take this as evidence that Big Gay controls everything, and Bryan Fischer will probably explain on the radio how this is JUST LIKE THE NAZIS, but the reality is simply that in 2015, anti-gay bigotry just doesn’t sit will with the townspeople! A lot of people out there are willing to stand up these days and say, “Hey, stop being an asshole to this nice honors student girl who happens to like other girls, what kind of dicks are you?”

....

So, score one for Nice Time and goodness and fairness and equality and kids getting to be themselves at prom. We are very sorry for any Good Christian people who feel Holocausted by the outcome.
