All sorts of you know what has hit fan Re: SC cop killing unarmed black man.

UP date to this earlier post:

Cop has been arrested AND denied bail.
His lawyer has quit the case.
FBI and Justice Department's Civil Rights Division launch investigation

What is is about this particular shooting that made such a difference in how officials are reacting?

Is the blowback after Ferguson?
or the unquestionable clarity of the video of the shooting?

Otherwise the story would be that the victim had the stun gun, squared off with the cop, but turned just as the officer fired in justified self-defense.

That's not to say some attorney won't spin us a yarn. It will be interesting to hear.

Seems like they are aggressive in responding to this type of thing. If you remember the officer who shot the unarmed black man at a gas station when he reached into his car to retrieve his identification, that happened in S.C. too and the officer was quickly fired and charged.

is scheduled to go on trial on July 20 for the shooting of an unarmed black man. He's charged with manslaughter.

The PD has refused to release any of the dashcam footage, which is suspicious at best.

that particular case was that there was NO reason whatsoever for Officer Trigger-happy to have even asked for any identification in the first fucking place. The guy was doing NOTHING wrong, he was getting back into his car after having paid for his gas and munchies. Whoopee. He had every right to be there and psycho-cop had no reason at all to stop him or to demand his ID or anything else.

are armed with camera phones and the like these days. Back in the Rodney King period filming was a rarity. Many people, with guts and no illusions about cops and the courts, have them and use them.

Before the Digital/Smartphone Age, reporters carrying bulky recording equipment really could be considered a distraction/concern/interference in a rapidly developing situation.

But that was long ago and no longer applies. It's time for law enforcement to enter the 21st century with mandatory body-cams and throwing out laws against citizen recordings.
