Iowa Bishop: Teacher's Job Offer Not Rescinded Because He's Gay, But Because He's Openly-Gay

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovement.com/davidbadash/iowa_bishop_teacher_s_job_offer_not_rescinded_because_he_s_gay_but_because_he_s_openly_gay

Tyler McCubbin has been a substitute teacher and volunteer track coach at Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, Iowa, since September. By all accounts, he is well-liked and respected. McCubbin says the school's president offered him a full time teaching position, but quickly rescinded the offer after a background check – including a look at McCubbin's Facebook page – showed he is gay and engaged to be married.

“We accept everybody, we love everybody. Everybody is always welcome within the context of the Catholic Church,” Bishop Richard Pates (image), head of the Des Moines Diocese, told KCCI news.

Bishop Pates "said that McCubbin wasn't denied the job because he's gay, but due to the openness of his sexual orientation."

"If they are living within a certain lifestyle, a celibate lifestyle, then that's fine. The decision was not based on the sexual orientation of the individual, but it was based on the Facebook publicity that he has opened to the world,” Bishop Richard Pates said.

There's some things in the bible about being openly hypocritical too. hobbit709 Apr 2015 #2

I have heard people say some version of "I don't care what they do on their own time, but why do they have to rub everyone's nose in it?" I've also heard "Some of my best friends are black. I like them because they don't act like it."

It seems to me that all oppressed groups have to go through the same stages of acceptance. I guess it must be like the stages of grief, or something. Consider that about every single ruling on gay marriage has been denied, appealed, rescinded, stayed... and finally, accepted. It is fascinating to watch for one with only a limited stake in the outcome, but highly frustrating.

This one by the Bishop is a classic, though. He probably does think, in his pointy little head, that he is making a valid distinction.

It's curious to look at search engine results for "openly-straight" versus "openly-gay", results are qualitatively different. "Openly-heterosexual" has more similar types of results.
