The three sorts of problem I care about.
There are lots of things wrong with the world - people suffer, for all sorts of necessary and unnecessary reasons.
Like everyone else (but possibly to a greater extent), most of those problems don't touch me emotionally - if you tell me about something horrible happening to strangers on the far side of the world, I will intellectually agree that it's a very bad thing, but I won't lose sleep over it.
There are three sorts of problem that do get to me on a more than intellectual level, however.
:-Problems that effect me, or people I care about, personally, and hence can't help caring about.
:-Problems I can do something about, and hence have an obligation to care about.
:-Problems that I regularly encounter people who disagree with me about, and hence end up arguing.
If a problem doesn't fit one of those three categories, I'm probably just going to shrug it off as "important, perhaps, but not personally relevant to me".
