The police officer who killed Walter Scott in South Carolina said afterwards that he was experiencing a rush of adrenaline, during a conversation that offers a new insight into his mindset in the minutes following the shooting.
Patrolman Michael Slager appeared to laugh nervously in the discussion with a senior officer after fatally shooting Scott in North Charleston on 5 April. A recording of their conversation was obtained by the Guardian.
By the time you get home, it would probably be a good idea to kind of jot down your thoughts on what happened, the senior officer said. You know, once the adrenaline quits pumping.

Its pumping, Slager said, laughing. The senior officer replied: Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
The senior officer told Slager during the conversation to go home and relax, assuring him that he would not have to answer questions about the shooting for days.

What did the African American male do to be so hated- to have his life treated like nothing.
I cry for our lack of humanity.

(23,973 posts)Don't fall for their bullshit, being a "civilian" actually means something.
LEO are *not* members of the military, military personnel are not civilians.
They gave up certain rights when joining the military, making them *not* civilians until discharged.
Cops actually believe they are above all other citizens and have special rights not afforded all other civilians.

(13,921 posts)They get special rights not afforded to other citizens. Makes it pretty easy for them to believe it.
Sucks for the rest of us though. Sucks for them too, in a way. It has corrupted them.

Hannah Arendt got it so right about the banality of evil.

(17,997 posts)I am so, unbelievably disgusted, saddened, horrified by what is happening that I can't even wrap my head around it. And nothing is being done to stop it. Nothing. No one cares.
I can't help but think this is very deliberate. That the killings, the incarcerations, the fines for petty bullshit, are part of some plan. Whether preconceived or just an offshoot of other plans, it is meant to systematically remove the black man from existence, to make sure that the poor are kept well under thumb and that the corpocracy are well protected.

(86,834 posts)Glad I live way the heck away from most of that. I'll take my spartan life with few frills or travel to be far from that part of society. I've had my bad experiences with cops and regular folk who have a problem with my skin color. In this remote place, I know most everyone and vice versa and we have to get along to survive.
I think I'll just stay put.

(86,834 posts)Actually, in a small town of <1500 in Montana. I know all the cops and they know me, some I knew before they became cops. Even the two dirty cops we just ousted were not violent. We don't have much crime here until the tourists arrive... then it's different but I don't have any problem with the community, and tourists have to go way out of their way to find me.

Sadly for them one of these days a young 'Serpico' will spill the beans on official policy and the methods for the official coverup.

(23,928 posts)the laughter. I myself have laughed out loud not long after the conclusion of a firefight in which guys I knew and liked had been killed. A full blown adrenaline rush, and the deficit which follows it can't be explained, it has to be experienced; and not everyone reacts the same way.
Slager is a murdering, evidence-planting, dirty cop, and I hope he is found guilty of second degree murder; but not because he laughed.

(7,906 posts)except that this wasn't combat, and it wasn't a firefight. It was a traffic stop. The officer could have just ticketed, or arrested him later at his house if need be.

(55,745 posts)My point: The nation is in the grips of blowback from out of control police state.
The memo is from the National Archive, so that's a fact.
The memo is about George Herbert Walker Bush, the guy who would become President one day, so that's a fact.
The memo says Bush told the FBI he was in Dallas on the same day President Kennedy was shot dead, so that's a fact.
The memo says Bush warned the FBI he heard someone say they were going to kill JFK, but Bush waited until JFK was dead to report it, so that's a fact.
What part really bothers you, the facts or that I brought them up?

Octafish
(55,745 posts)And here's a different memo of what I'm writing about -- the direct 51-year long line of government corruption stemming from that day in Dallas.
FBI de-briefed a "Mr. George Bush of the Central Intelligence Agency" about the assassination and its impact on the anti- and pro-Castro communities in Miami.
Lots of important conclusions can be drawn from that document, including the extraordinary effort the CIA made to distance its former director and later president, the same guy who was in Dallas a few days earlier, GHW Bush, from the "Mr. George Bush" of the CIA it mentioned. For those so interested, details.
Here's one important way how the corruption at the top affects the cop on the local beat:
The Nasty Blowback From Americas Wars: The Brutalizers and the Brutalized (Ray McGovern)
Let me know if you find anything else inappropriate in what I write, Codeine. I'll let you know if I find anything of interest in your posts.

(57,936 posts)The warrant for Scott's arrest was, if this report is true, for failure to pay child support.
http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/walter-scott-shooting/walter-scott-shooting-warrant-over-child-support-court-records-show-n339151
Slager's shooting Scott means that Scott will never be able to pay the child support. Should Slager pay it?
My point is that shooting a suspect who is fleeing from arrest on a bench warrant for failure to pay child support defeats the purpose of the warrant.
What good is arresting a person for failure to pay child support anyway? What you insure is that the person sitting in jail for failure to pay child support will not earn any money during his time in jail and be even less able to pay the child support.
We need some other method for helping people who are owed child support.
