German woman set to become world's oldest mother of quadruplets

A 65-year-old Berlin woman who already has 13 children is pregnant again with quadruplets, Germany's RTL broadcaster reported on Sunday.

The Russian and English teacher's pregnancy follows several attempts abroad at artificial insemination over the last year-and-a-half, according to the private TV channel.

The woman, Annegret Raunigk, decided to try to have another child because her youngest daughter, who is nine, wanted a little brother or sister, the channel said on its website.

Asked about moral doubts, RTL quoted her as asking: "How does one have to be at 65? One must apparently always fit some cliches which I find rather tiring.

"I think, one must decide that for oneself."

But at 65? I would think the risks to both the mother and the children (plural since she obviously is stating she knows she's having several) would be pretty high.

In the end it's her decision. I guess she's fine with having kids in high school when she's in her early 80's.

though it says she travelled to several other countries so maybe that took some work. I don't think we need a law protecting us from 65-year-olds having quads. And a law wouldn't have helped anyway if she just went from country to country until she found someone willing to do it. She could just go from country to country until she found someplace it's legal.

grandchildren - will take care of the new children when she can't do it any more.

I'm 71 and whenever I have nightmares in which I have another baby, I always give the baby to my kids or married grandkids. I would do that in real life too. I love watching my great-granddaughter for an afternoon once in a while, and I love having her here with her parents, but being her mom at my age would wear me out. Best of luck to Ms. Raunigk.
