http://www.wgxa.tv/news/local/Milledgeville-Pharmacist-Refuses-to-Fill-Prescription-for-Miscarriage-Patient-299421801.htmlThe doctor's office called the Milledgeville Walmart to fill the prescription but they were told no and they were not given a reason.
"So we found another place to fill it but I still had to go up there to get another prescription so when I went up there she asked if I had any questions about this prescription I said no I don't but I do have a question about the other one. And she looks at my name and she says oh, well...I couldn't think of a valid reason why you would need this prescription", Cartrett said.
The drug in question is Misoprostol, which can also used to induce abortions.

(26,117 posts)It is practicing medicine as a doctor without a medical degree.
I bet that pharmacist would have an absolute conniption if she took her bald-tire car in and was denied new tires because the owner of the car place didn't think she needed them. Fuck these nosy fundamentalist.

(16,334 posts)there are often prescriptions for medicines that treat different things. Why the hell should the pharmacist be allowed to make any decision about it? You are right: it's like they are practicing medicine themselves.
If doctor prescribed it, pharmacist should fill it.
It's not the pharmacist's job to decide if the patient needs the prescription or not.

(3,182 posts)One horse town where the only thing that keeps it alive is GCSU - Georgia College and State University. (My daughter did joint enrollment junior and senior years of high school at GSCU.)
It's a college town. More college students than residents of the godforsaken one hick town.
It's entirely likely there isn't even another pharmacy in Milledgeville except for Walmart.
And Walmart is only there because the students provide a customer base. It's very likely the girl didn't even have a car to get to another pharmacy.
Oh yeah, and getting to Milledgeville..........watch your speed because every town between I20 and the college is a speed trap. Another cottage industry thanks to the college students.
If the students at GSCU would boycott this Walmart, they'd go bankrupt.

CVS reviews are all like this:
The worst service I have ever had at a pharmacy. Called multiple times on a simple birth control monthly re fill, they even blamed my insurance for the problems. Finally had my original cvs call them and they said they had it. When I went to pick it up I still had to wait over an hour to receive my prescription. When I asked to speak with the Pharmacist he did not even apologize.
And none of the other pharmacies are in walking distance of the school.

(961 posts)But there's lots of history there since it was the original capital of GA. There's Ga Military School, the Ga power plant, a rather large chalk mine in nearby Sandersonville, Lake Sinclair, etc.... The town did just fine up until GCSU exploded in attendance and would have continued to do so. And the appeal is there for as many students to be going as there are.
And if you don't want a ticket on 441, don't go over 60mph and slow down through Madison and Eatonton. Easy peasy.

(3,789 posts)I have a very narrow cervical opening and about 3 years my periods were happening every 3 months. My ob/gyn tried to do a endometrial biopsy in the office which he couldn't perform and I had to take misoprostal twice for both my d&cs(the first one failed). Thank god I didn't have to deal with a fundie pharmacist at CVS

"Gosh sir, I can't think of a valid reason why you would need this prescription, no woman would voluntarily have sex with you anyway."
But misoprostol? According to its Wiki page, it also starts labor (like, say, you're eight and a half months pregnant and you want to have the baby so her grandmother, who's over in the hospice house with less than a week to live, can hold her at least once), prevents and treats stomach ulcers, and treats postpartum bleeding. While I'm not in the medical profession, I'd say there are several "valid reasons" why you'd need that prescription.
Gee, Milledgeville Walmart Pharmacy Lady, there's NOT an abortion doctor behind every tree.
