Private jet costs keep up New Jersey GOP spending
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - The New Jersey State Republican Committee reports it spent more on private jets in the first three months of the year than the Democratic state party spent in total.
That's according to political party finance reports made public Friday by the state's Election Law Enforcement Commission.
Gov. Chris Christie used the private planes as he traveled the country in January, preparing for a possible presidential run. The party spent $231,000 on the planes, all in January.
According to a report from PolitickerNJ, Christie warned the GOP chairmen last Thursday at a breakfast at the governors mansion that the financial reports will include many private airplane trips to Dallas, Texas.
Well, you know how important it is to have your governor make those important trips to cities in key primary states like DALLAS.
WHAT THE F***??!!!
Last time I checked Dallas is neither in the key primary states of Iowa or New Hampshire but in SOLIDLY RED STATE TEXAS.
So GOP donors have been paying to send Chris Christie to go hang-out with Jerry Jones and watch the Dallas Cowboy Playoff games?
Not sure if donors are going to be too happy that is how their money is being spent especially since they can't get the GOP to win either of the US Senate seats or control of the NJ Congress (both houses are controlled by the Democrats)

(95,337 posts)But it looks like foolish spending of the filthy rich using other people's money.
NJ is a strange state because the democrats do have tighter control on that state - if the governor race was held even on a mid-term year he probably would not win. But since it's held on odd years, it gets some of the lowest turn outs for statewide elections. It was also why Christie wasted millions of dollars hold the special senate elect 3 weeks before his governors race. He knew that Newark mayor Corey Booker could bring out higher voter turnout because of how popular Booker is - of course that was the wrong kind of voters Christie would want showing up on regular election day. No wonder NJ is broke.

(13,877 posts)one might say sacrificed, while glibly lying out his ass...and everybody knew it. That was what was so amazing about that whole thing. Then to act like nothing had happened and run for President. I believe he did lose his RNC position, but not sure.
Many of us felt this was just a drop in the proverbial bucket of his slimy ways.
Booker is young and has only upwards to go...I like him.

Proof positive that Republicans have no shame.

(14,255 posts)Spending other people's money is what politicians DO. So, still not a dis-qualifier, I'm afraid.

(14,255 posts)Not holding my breath. Besides, why does it matter, seriously, what his state thinks? The GOP will back anyone who they think can win nationally, and the GOP loves them some bullies.

(95,337 posts)Governor elections are on odd years and usually get the lowest voter turn outs.
Christie made it a point to have the special senator election 3 weeks ahead of his Governor reelection in 2009 just to make sure that democrats wouldn't bother to show up voting twice in 3 weeks. He knew that Corey Booker would bring out the voters but too may could have risk Christie' governor seat.
Democrats still have both US Senate seats, half the US House seats and majority in both NJ Congressional groups. If NJ Governor election was even during a mid-term year, Christie would have never won.
Democrats need to be more reliable voters.

(2,957 posts)The more they spend on useless crap like this, the less they'll have for their campaigns and for attack ads. Yes, they can get replacement cash from the likes of the Kochs. But, that will inflate the quantity of dollars they receive and spend overall, which is bad optics for Republicans. We can use these optics to paint them as elitist, out of touch with the commoner and overall skanky.

(18,652 posts)or is it just about the Dallas Cowboys? Christie would go for either or both.
Of course, he will say his visits are all about jobs and industries for NJ. Wanna bet?
And we haven't heard a word about his withholding fed funds from Dem mayors for Hurr. Sandy relief.
