Officers, city officials resign after new African-American mayor elected

Voters in Parma, Missouri voted in their first African-American female mayor.

Tyrus Byrd will be sworn in as mayor on Tuesday evening, April 14, at the Parma Community Building.

According to Mayor Randall Ramsey, five out of six police officers resigned this week, effectively immediately.

Mayor Ramsey said the city's attorney, the clerk and the waste water treatment plant supervisor also turned in resignation letters citing "safety concerns."

I just can't imagine giving up my livelihood and my responsibilities to my family based on the color of someone's skin.

Could you imagine them telling their spouses, " I think we might have to sell the house and pull Jonny out of college."

"Why?"

"I quit my job today cause the new Mayor is black"

Born and raised in tiny Parma, Missouri, Tyrus Byrd, a Christian missionary and the city clerk of Parma, decided she wanted to give running for mayor a shot. She beat the incumbent mayor, a white man, by 37 votes. Before she could take office, police officers and city employees scrambled like roaches with the light flipped on:

Mayor Elect, Tyrus Byrd, said she was unaware of the situation and plans to ask questions about the "safety concerns" during Tuesday night's ceremony.

History[edit]
Parma was first incorporated as a village in 1900.

At the turn of the 20th century, Parma contained two saw mills.[7]

In 1903, Parma, along with the neighboring community of Lotta, was incorporated as a village, retaining the name "Parma."

It became a fourth class city in 1905.

On April 14, 2015, Tyrus Byrd was sworn in as the first African-American woman mayor of Parma.[8]

There's another version of that, but, well.... I'm totally sure they can find willing replacements. Sounds like a great plan to me.

racism against AAs doesn't exist and is merely a figment of everyone else's imagination.

Well you racist fucks, it's about time the trash was taken to the curb!

Congratulations Tyrus Byrd and let the hiring begin!

could easily by bribed or blackmailed. Maybe those that resigned were in positions given to them in exchange for something else and the new mayor changes the rules?

Seems it fits this situation perfectly and/or it's a racist thing.

In either case, looks like this little town gets a breath of fresh air!
