WA teachers in Stanwood Camano, Arlington, and Lakewood school districts will go on strike on Wednesday as lawmakers debate how to fulfill a WA State Supreme Court mandate that WA state lawmakers make K-12 education its top funding priority as stated in our state constitution. Other districts may follow. It is time for Democrats to stand up to Republicans and demand that we not only not cut education funding but that we increase funding or they will lose teachers unions and voters.

I often think our nation would be a better place if income taxes paid for education, and property and wealth taxes paid for defense.

(15,808 posts)Left there at the beginning of high school- back when the high school was a mere two years old. Made the choice to live with my other parent in Alaska.
I made that choice because I wanted to take classes that Lakewood didn't offer. Basic stuff like Calculus and Physics. The Alaska schools were well funded back then with oil $$$. Kids there had never even heard of school levies.
I don't think I would've become an engineer had I stayed in Lakewood. The teachers did the best they could. Sad that funding is still an issue.
