When we told you they were arguing this, we weren't kidding: (PUKE ALERT)

Children Raised By Same-Sex Couples May Do Worse When the Couples Marry

For decades social science has found that there is an optimal family structure for a child’s intellectual, emotional and physical flourishing: being raised in a home by her biological, married parents.

All other arrangements—cohabiting biological parents, marriage with one step-parent, two adoptive parents or single parents—do not generally provide the same level of benefit.

But the rise of same-sex couples has led to a curious development. By their very structure, same-sex couples cannot meet what has been shown to be the gold standard of family structures for children.

Yet in recent amicus briefs in the pending Supreme Court marriage case, the American Psychological Association and the American Sociological Association claim that the science is “settled” that there is no difference between married, biological parents and same-sex parents for child outcomes.

There are so many charlatans out there (and I'll include the APA and many more touchy-feely orgs.)

Christian Scientists, Marching On To War!
Scientologists, Pay Us Some More!

Chiroproctologists, HomeoScientists, PhrenoSciencogists, (make up your own here.)

Having worked with several degreed board-certified sociologists, psycologists, psychiatrists; I can certify that most of them need more AMA-certified medical assistance. (Of course, the AMA is another example of a little club that doesn't like to air its own faults.)

than the tragic mulatto myth.

I wish I were surprised that some groups in this nation push any of this crap. They have been at this since the 1600s.

And some of that shit is double and triple shitty if you are a PoC. I am not, but I listen.

Before you say it, becuase I expect it, I am not minimizing shit. But this is far from shocking or surprising to any person who is even moderately informed on issues of race and gender. IT is almost akin to does the sun rise in the morning?

Even stark reminders such as the OP don't seem to garner the same level of respect as other issues. "The tide lifts all boats" seems to be their mantra, forgetting while all boats are raised not all boats are yachts or dinghies and don't magically become the same when the tide rises.

The tiny group of pediatricians who filed a brief against marriage as part of the "College" do not speak for the 60,000 plus pediatricians in the "Academy."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_College_of_Pediatricians

This article is about the socially conservative advocacy group. For the major professional association of pediatricians, see American Academy of Pediatrics.

The American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds) is a socially conservative association of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals in the United States. The College was founded in 2002 by a group of pediatricians including Joseph Zanga, a past president of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), as a protest against the AAP's support for adoption by gay couples.[1][2] The group's membership has been estimated at between 60 and 200 members.[1][3] (In contrast, the AAP has more than 60,000 members.[4]) ACPeds describes itself as "a national organization of pediatricians and other healthcare professionals dedicated to the health and well-being of children... committed to fulfilling its mission by producing sound policy, based upon the best available research, to assist parents and to influence society in the endeavor of childrearing."[5]

Raise your hand if you would say your family structure was the gold standard.......anyone?

Who the hell set a gold standard? I was raised in a home by biological married parents. My father was an alcoholic so that didn't make my childhood idyllic. I had friends who also were raised by biological married parents---some too poor, some with parents who both were always working, some saw abuse of a parent or themselves, some experienced constant fighting, some were pushed hard to excel, some were ignored. There is no "gold standard".

No, not even the goodie-two-shoes parents who think that they are perfect really are. I've known your kids too.

because those of us with friends who are out have seen it for years and years.

Things are starting to change for the better, but the pace is glacial.

In the meantime, that two parent bio family works just fine but only if both parents were completely sane. Those of us who weren't raised by milk and cookies after school types of nuclear families have always regarded those silly studies with great skepticism since they have been demonstrations of nothing more than confirmation bias.

Back in 1969 when I was single and my daughter was a newborn, I couldn't think of anyone I would want to raise my daughter better than my friend Jack. He has been a constant in my daughters life all these years and thankfully nothing happened to me so I could raise her myself. When my daughter got married herself she credited Jack with knowing what characteristics make a good man. I have always been thankful for his friendship but more importantly his part in my daughters life.
