The Iran / US naval "confrontation" is being overplayed in the media, imho.

I see it as more of a long standing kabuki style theater in the region. Not really something new. Missing from some of the media reports is the fact that a lot of other nations have a naval presence there. Again, not something new. Framing it as a singular US / Iran situation is a hyperbolic oversimplification. Makes for a good blurb in the media, though. Alert! Breaking news!

Everyone involved, including Iran, has an interest in keeping the waterway open to shipping.

Yeah, it's a more pointed dance than we've seen recently but I don't think "war is at hand" or any of the other imminent prognostications being broadcast.

No military specialist here and no wish to downplay the situation, yet I think the situation is being hyped without a big picture context.
