Utah lawyer promises nearly 1 million abortions if same-sex marriage is legalized

A Utah lawyer and his purported entourage of 100 conservative scholars have put forward their argument against same-sex marriage: It kills.

Gene Schaerr's amicus brief (PDF) to the Supreme Court will include a dubious claim that homosexual unions will lead to 900,000 abortions. In part, his argument reads:

"Moreover, compared with children of man-woman couples raised in any other environment, children raised by their two biological parents in a married family are less likely to commit crimes, experience teen pregnancy, have multiple abortions, engage in substance abuse, suffer from mental illness or do poorly in school, and more likely to support themselves and their own children successfully in the future."

Unfortunately for Schaerr, who represented Utah in the state's gay marriage case, his argument falls apart when confronted by Schaerr himself. The Washington Post's Dana Milbank confronted him about the proof behind that claim earlier in the week.

Schaerr's statement isn't even an argument; it's demented ranting.

That's about the way I read it.

Perhaps we should lock him up - that'll stop that from happening should same sex marriage be legalized

... but doesn't having an abortion require that one be pregnant first? Homosexual marriage will cause pregnancy ...?

Seriously, this klown should be locked up behind high walls and heavily medicated if he is this far gone. This country is a gigantic open-air funny farm.
