An odd observation about Republicans

I was having a "discussion" with a Republican family member when it occurred to me why we have so much difficulty talking to conservatives:

Conservatives treat facts as if they were opinions, and treat opinions as if they were facts.

Liberal: "The U.S. Census bureau figures show that..."
Conservative: "I don't believe it. Rush Limbaugh says that ... so you are wrong."

This issue affect all different people. It seems likely that us liberals ignore facts that wee don't like and elevate opinions to fact status for those things we do like. I'd like to believe Republicans do it more.

“You're entitled to your own opinions. You're not entitled to your own facts.”

If he'd lived through the last few years he might have added something about the ability to tell them apart.
