http://www.nytimes.com/2015/04/24/your-money/justice-department-sues-quicken-loans.htmlThe Justice Department filed a lawsuit Thursday against Quicken Loans, the nations third-largest mortgage lender, contending that it made hundreds of improper loans through the Federal Housing Administration lending program, costing the agency millions of dollars.
The F.H.A. does not make loans itself, but insures them. Participating lenders, including Quicken, which makes more F.H.A. loans than any other institution, have the authority to originate, underwrite and certify mortgages covered by F.H.A. insurance. Under the program, if the borrower later defaults, the holder of the loan can file an insurance claim to cover losses.
The Justice Department contends that from September 2007 through December 2011, Quicken knowingly submitted claims or caused the submission of claims on hundreds of bad loans, and encouraged an underwriting process in which employees disregarded the program rules and falsely certified that loans met the requirements.

My comments: This is an interesting lawsuit, given that Quicken Loans aggressively advertises in all media for its mortgage loan business. I have not used this company. This could be very bad for the company, if the allegations are proven.

can find better deals elsewhere.

It was, between 1999 and 2002, but was purchased back by the original founders in 2003. It's important to note this, since there is some confusion, due to the name, which was retained after the buyback. You can read the company's history here:

Put the package together in 16 days and at the best rate in the market at that time. Their tie in is with Schwab. Closed the whole deal in 18 days and our locked in was 3 7/8 in straight up no stupid add ons. Heard stories about some of their mid 2000's loans, just as bad as Country Wide.
