Diet Pepsi is getting rid of aspartame, but Diet Coke is keeping it

PEPSICO SAY IT’S dropping aspartame from Diet Pepsi in response to customer worries and replacing it with sucralose, another artificial sweetener commonly known as Splenda.

The decision to swap sweeteners comes as Americans keep turning away from popular diet sodas. Rival Coca-Cola said this week that sales volume for Diet Coke, which also uses aspartame, fell 5 percent in North America in the first three months of the year.

Atlanta-based Coca-Cola said in a statement that it has no plans to change the sweetener in Diet Coke, which is the world’s top-selling diet cola.

The US Food and Drug Administration says aspartame, known by the brand names Equal and NutraSweet, is “one of the most exhaustively studied substances in the human food supply, with more than 100 studies supporting its safety.”

Soda stream which is a miracle. The best way to drink Diet Coke. I am sure as the popularity of this incredible invention spreads, it will take more from the overall bottom line.

of soda overall. The market has changed very, very dramatically and sales are pretty much in the tank for all sodas. Consumers are buying bottled water and a host of other alternatives.

however, they are making changes like crazy, looking for the means to increase market share. Rumors this week was of Pepsi buying Nabisco from Mondelez which had purchased it from Kraft a few years ago.

They should rename it from soda stream to diabetes incubator.

The only soda's that I drink on a rare basis are the Mexican ones with real sugar. Other than that, I drink mostly water and lately V8 Fusion in the 8oz cans since my diet isn't the best at the moment and I want the extra fruits and vegs. I tried normal V8 but couldn't get past the mouth feel.

I did try some sucralose sweetened soft drinks at the time... I wasn't especially impressed.

When traveling or attending meetings, I still might succumb to the occasional Diet Coke, but am hoping they don't change the formula.

For me, it is the calcium-leaching impact of soft drinks, I intend to avoid.
