Aside from the horrible loss of life, the awful destruction of historic sites in Nepal

Aside from the horrible loss of life, much cultural heritage was destroyed in Kathmandu, some structures dating back hundreds of years.

Just went over my pix from the trip. Not sure exactly what was destroyed but I doubt much of it survived. So sad.
When I first heard about it I thought that the damage did not extend to Baktapur. Saw some pix today and they look just as bad off as Katmandu.
This such a tragedy for Nepal. So much of their history and cultural heritage have been lost.

I visited Kathmandu many years ago, the old part of the city was truly lovely and magical. I visited all those places shown in the pictures.

The thing is, while the loss of those historic buildings is certainly a hard blow, I can't help but think that for the people of Kathmandu Valley, it is the destruction of so many of their homes that is the greater loss.
