The New York Times:Mr. Reisner put the apology on Facebook, where a page calling for a boycott of his properties, the gay-friendly OUT NYC hotel and his Fire Island Pines holdings, had gotten more than 8,200 likes by Sunday evening.
I am shaken to my bones by the emails, texts, postings and phone calls of the past few days. I made a terrible mistake, wrote Mr. Reisner.
...snip...
The two men are prominent figures in the gay rights community, and Mr. Reisner has been especially vocal about same-sex marriage. Hes also a staunch supporter of Israel, as is Mr. Cruz.
Since EVERY Republican is a staunch supporter of Israel, still doesn't explain why he cozied up to Cruz.

(60,536 posts)I am shaken to my bones by the e-mails, texts, postings and phone calls of the past few days. I made a terrible mistake. I was ignorant, naive and much too quick in accepting a request to co-host a dinner with Cruz at my home without taking the time to completely understand all of his positions on gay rights. I've spent the past 24 hours reviewing videos of Cruz' statements on gay marriage and I am shocked and angry. I sincerely apologize for hurting the gay community and so many of our friends, family, allies, customers and employees. I will try my best to make up for my poor judgement. Again, I am deeply sorry.

(9,527 posts)I can see why he might have missed it. Oh wait Cruz is proud of his open bigotry against gay people (and others)

(60,536 posts)(not just TPM), folks seem evenly divided. Some accept the apology while others doubt it. One question I keep seeing asked is, "what's his business partner (and co host of the suarez) have to say about this?"

(53,959 posts)Of course, I could be wrong, because the truth is there are quite a few GLBT people who have no idea about politics. For some reason, gays are expected to be savvy about politics and know who's who in the political world. When my husband and I lived in New Orleans, which has a very active LGBT community, we would try to discuss politics with some people; I was surprised at the ignorance. Even basic things were unknown. It demonstrated the GLBT is indeed like every other group and has plenty of people not connected into the world of politics. Then again, as another poster claims, it was...oh why spoil the surprise...
No, it was about Cruz' support for Israel. Apparently he's Jewish 1st, gay 2nd
That type of ignorance is likely why he then went on to say:The fact is, an unknown quantity of Jewish Democrats will move to the Republican party over Israel.
After reading his "facts" about the Jewish Democrats moving to the Republican party; OH WAIT, there were no facts.
Seems the "gay angle" wasn't enough for some, and actually was likely the reason this even "interesting" to a certain few, who normally couldn't give two shits about GLBT issues, rights or concerns.
Personally, your theory, "its all about the money", makes more sense and is often the undercurrent in many a minority's support of the Republican party. Other issues are generally nothing more than window dressing.

This is a fine organization that is very close to my heart and for those who live in NY, they have many events each year that are very much worth attending, upcoming Poker Night (Broadway Bets, May 18th) looks like fun...and the Broadway Flea Market in the fall is always a winner....

(16,846 posts)as well as Hillary Clinton support Israel, so what does that apology mean, exactly? I don't think it means anything besides, "I want your money back."
