In fact, one must look at the outliers. I once read an article about a family who had kids who graduated college early, and their comment about why the kids were able to perform that well was because they allowed the kids to dictate what they want to learn and specialize in.

It made learning fun, rather than being tested, and so they were able to perform at a much higher level than their peers.

I have to find that article.

Every public school teacher will be able to confirm these tests are very poorly designed and do not show what kids really know. The administrators of the public schools have bought in to the testing in order to get the state and federal tax dollars plus it gives the administrators a great hammer to use against their teachers to keep them from speaking out. The tests and the mandatory computer hardware and software generates billions in profits for a few well connected corporations. The testing profits generated by NCLB and RTTP have funded even more corporate lobbying to the detriment of our children and our public schools. The corporations have found a wonderful cash cow by robbing our public schools.

I do not understand why President Obama has gone along with this obvious scam. I very much hope Hillary Clinton will run against the corporate takeover of our public schools. She could do her campaign tremendous good by announcing early she is opposed to all the testing scams.

Thanks for posting!

Money and profits are driving this testing. Dumb down and bankrupt the public schools and drive the kids to the for-profit charter schools, that are using tax money earmarked for "education".

We need more kids like this. More parents like his parents too.

It's an inherent flaw of letting people with MBA's run everything.

Education, which can be fun, is costly. Extract money from it for private/corporate profit, and the result is less education and less fun.
