ESPN costs the cable providers more than any other channel. As part of basic cable everyone pays for it not just sports fans.
Sports network ESPN has sued Verizon for an alleged breach of contract stemming from the telecom giant's new custom cable plan.
In a suit filed Monday in New York Supreme Court, the network said it is seeking damages related to the Verizon package, which allows FiOS customers to choose a smaller bundle of television channels each month. ESPN said it sought to stop Verizon from "unfairly depriving" it of "the benefits of its bargain."

(31,828 posts)Seriously - can't wait for the overlay - but in the meantime - I've always loved the idea of smaller packages that meet my need.
I'm never - seriously - NEVER going to watch ESPN. But I can tell you what channels TCM and Retro are on my cable.

I shouldn't have to pay for ESPN, if I never watch it, FOX would be G-O-N-E!
