There's a RAW Story from a few weeks back and it quotes Tom Delay spouting the purported belief as an item of fact that "People keep forgetting that God wrote the Constitution".
As quoted by RAW Story verbatim, Tom Delay's remarks are;
I think we got off the track when we allowed our government to become a secular government, DeLay explained. When we stopped realizing that God created this nation, that he wrote the Constitution, that its based on biblical principles.
This Jew for Jesus wannabe Agnostic {moi} - calls out Bull C H I T!

 Founding Fathers Say Absolute NO to Religious Constitution
Sorry to burst Tom Delay (and every other RWNJs') bubble; but Addicting Info has on online item that slam dunks this bogus belief/theory into the out-house crap hole it belongs. Beyond the shadow of any doubt, keeping religion out of government was the priority of all the founding fathers. Addicting Info's online thread documenting this - is titled apropos "35 founding fathers quotes that conservative Christian's will Hate".
It states such axiomatic principals as Item 5 - by John Adams - that;
~1797 Treaty of Tripoli signed by Founding Father John Adams

Here are some more perfect quotes of the likes of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and others...I would steadfastly suggest that we read each item and quote them often. For the founding fathers also points out that society advances and people rush to - the parts of the country where freedom is assured.

~Founding Father George Washington, letter to the United Baptist Chamber of Virginia, May 1789
12. History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes.
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson: in letter to Alexander von Humboldt, December 6, 1813
16. And I have no doubt that every new example will succeed, as every past one has done, in shewing that religion & Govt will both exist in greater purity, the less they are mixed together.
~Founding Father James Madison, letter to Edward Livingston, July 10, 1822
28. No religious doctrine shall be established by law.
~Founding Father Elbridge Gerry, Annals of Congress 1;729-731

Can anyone write like the founding fathers, from the days of yore?
WOW! - The sheer simplicity of what they say is absolutely astounding.
As is this one (explaining how I'm a Jew for Jesus wannabe Agnostic), as dear ole founding father Thomas Jefferson made this apropos note that;
~Founding Father Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 10, 1787

(33,688 posts)that he wished he had told Madison to include freedom FROM religion in the Constitution.
Adams, with the wisdom that comes with seeing so much history pass before one's eyes, heartily concurred in his response to his old adversary, later friend.
