Oklahoma lawmaker threatens to set himself on fire over abortion issue

Last week, Rep. Kevin Calvey, R-Oklahoma City, got animated during debate on Senate Bill 548, which would provide 6 percent raises, paid from court fees, for Supreme Court justices and other appellate court judges and employees.

The bill ended up passing and returns to the Senate for final consideration.

Calvey is upset with court rulings that have gone against efforts to restrict abortions and said that withholding the pay increase would be effective in punishing the justices.

He loudly said that if he were not a Christian, he would go across the street to the state Supreme Court building, douse himself in gasoline and set himself on fire to “protest the evil in that building.”

(My question is, will it be on Pay-per-view?)

Why these people run for offices I will never know. Guess voting and courts should not have a say.

They constantly whine about how persecuted they are.

Prove it.

Does he mean to say only that he thinks only Satan would direct people to practice self-immolation as the last attempt in a virtuous protest against an unbearable Evil?
His God must not want any more martyrs.

Or maybe Mr. Calvey is more concerned about being comfortable and "respected" in his little circle of friends than of truly being righteous - that is, if God is really that concerned about a secular law over someone's personal choices and health.

I suspect that a Creator God that created the entire universe and all it's wonders - and terrors - is not that much of a micro-manager and could care less about what one individual life-form out of septillionths of magnitude of life forms out there believes, or to severely punish the smallest slights or "breaking" of social rules of any similarly small grouping of people with furious discipline.
I also (politely) would suspect that amongst many things, Mr. Calvey's universe, maturity level, and experience is very, very small.

I could prove him not a "Christian". You think he really would do it if I did?

The SOB loves himself too much for that, but I am willing to call 911 - I learned early that if anyone threatens suicide, just pick up the phone and press 9 1 1.
