The reason why I ask, is because I see that statement made fairly frequently here on du, and it's getting to the point where I almost expect someone to add: "And God Bless America" just to polish it off.

(6,960 posts)I think this 'safe haven' group idea is one of the worst ever at DU.
We are not a bunch of proto-fascists who cannot tolerate dissent or debate or arguments.
I don't think Sen. Sanders would approve of the kind of rigid, intolerance that a lot of us here have suffered at the hands of the HRC group.

(1,701 posts)I'm so pleased that he is running; he supports all the right things and fights all the bad things. Plus he knows a great deal, is honest, has integrity, and is fearless. He will change the nature of this campaign in a very positive way.
Flying Squirrel
(3,041 posts)Call me cynical, but it's my opinion that he is doing this as a purely political move to balance the scales of the 2007-8 Democratic primaries. Still, it does make one wonder where he really stands with the more liberal members of this website. Are we just a nuisance, are we unimportant? We're already treated this way by establishment Democrats, it kind of stings to be treated the same way on DU - and make no mistake, when the owner of the website stakes out a position so clearly this early in the game, it's a slap in the face to the rest of us. If he's playing politics to try and win back (or win over) the Hillary contingent, it's at the expense of the more liberal contingent. If he's just stating a real, deep conviction, it's still inadvisable given that he is the website administrator coming down squarely against a major segment of the site.
Once again, there's a reason my financial contribution decreased last year and went away altogether this year. I'm sure he'll allow what you are asking for, but it's clear that this permission will be given without any real enthusiasm on his part.

(17,796 posts)if he wants to support someone that's his right.
Flying Squirrel
(3,041 posts)Just the wisdom.
daleanime
(17,796 posts)which ones?
Flying Squirrel
(3,041 posts)I don't dispute the right to post what he wants, just the wisdom. He maintained impartiality in the 2007-8 primaries, thereby showing that he cared about not alienating any particular segment of DU. His many posts in support of HRC this time around indicates that he no longer cares whether or not he alienates the more liberal members. There will be repercussions, for sure. In my case it comes in the form of withdrawn financial support for the website, just as I will not support HRC financially the way I did Obama. Not that she needs my contribution, with her big donors, and apparently neither does DU anymore.
ms liberty
(8,580 posts)And he has the right to a preference in his support in the primaries. He's a member of DU too.
Flying Squirrel
(3,041 posts)I am questioning the wisdom, not the right. He showed admirable restraint during the 2007-8 primaries, so I know he has that capability. It's my opinion that he would have been wise to have continued doing so at this early stage.

If he's running with his eye mostly on raising concerns (that go to the heart of our platform) I'll still support him, but it will be different. Or maybe it won't be different, I agree with him so often that it might just feel natural to support anything he gets going.

Spamming and pointless trolling are easily discerned from political discussion and I would hope Bernie's room will allow polite disagreement.
