How I spent last Friday night (yes I was in a tux again)

X post in Classic Film.

(I'm still going through email. I feel much better after all the inspirational thoughts etc.)

Old tux photo below the event photo.

Twice a year film historian Bruce Crawford shows a classic film in Omaha as a fund raiser for charity. Last Friday was "Some Like it Hot"

Here are the shows he has done in the past: http://www.omahafilmevent.com/past/index.htm

In case you have never seen this, here I am with Debbie Reynolds.

Thank you Bruce Crawford for another terrific classic movie tribute. Some Like it Hot, starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe, was outstanding on the big screen of the Witherspoon Concert Hall in the Joslyn Art Museum. And Tony's daughter, Kelly, did a wonderful job discussing her father, as a father as well as an actor. We are very fortunate to have someone in Omaha like Bruce who has a love for classic films, and enjoys sharing that love with all of us. This was number 36, dating back to 1992. Including such memorable films as Ben Hur, Gone With the Wind, West Side Story and Casablanca; and stars as varied as Cloris Leachman, Pat Boone, David MacCallum and Tippi Hedron. If you haven't made it to one of these presentations yet, there will be another one in October. Don't miss it! A beautiful hall, terrific film, and the chance to meet and talk to an actor from the film or a family member. What more could you ask for?

I want to say that I had the opportunity to go to Bruce Crawford's event Some Like it Hot at the Joslyn Art museum. I had heard from a friend how great his past event (a showing of The Birds) was, and I was excited, but didn't know what to expect.

I have to say, the presentation blew my mind! There were hundreds of people on hand to watch a movie from 1959! Every single person I spoke to there was passionate about not just the film but to meet Kelly Curtis, (daughter of Tony Curtis, one of the stars of the show!) To top it all off, the event was to help support the Omaha Park foundation!

Bruce's passion for this event, on top of the brilliant comedy, inspired an energy as I have never felt at a film viewing before and I cannot wait to see his next event in October!

Thank you, Omaha, for everything

On Friday evening, April 24, I spoke publicly for the first time about my father, Tony Curtis, at Bruce Crawford’s Omaha film event, a screening of “Some Like It Hot.”

I am not a public speaker and, as such, was, frankly, terrified, especially when I heard there were hundreds people attending. I had designed my speech so that if I felt intimidated or lost, I could leave out some of the stories I wanted to tell and jump to the end. I am happy and proud to report that my fears were completely unfounded. I immediately felt the warmth and acceptance from the audience and ended up recounting everything I had planned to and more.

I particularly want to mention how impressed I was with the beautiful Magnolia Hotel, the fantastic city tour I had on “Ollie the Trolley,” the delicious meals I ate at Heritage Food and Wine and Petrow’s Restaurant, and the exquisite Joslyn Art Museum where the event took place.

I am immensely grateful to Bruce and to all the wonderful people I met for the loving welcome I received and the opportunity I was given to share my stories about the great movie icon who was simply “Daddy” to me. I look forward to visiting Omaha again soon with my husband to explore more of what your exciting city has to offer.
