Watching the curfew skirmishes last night brought a stark reminder of how our media views its role. Switching between CNN and Fox could not have been more of a demonstration of viewing through different lenses. While CNN had Don Lemmon referee camera time between two reporters in the middle of the small skirmishes that popped up at 10:00PM, Fox had Geraldo on the ground and Hannity in the Studio directing traffic and vainly attempting to find a way to blame someone else while interviewing an unnamed cop.
While Hannity interviewed a dark hooded and voice modified Baltimore cop who lamented the war on cops, Geraldo was busy trying to check on one of his security staff who had evidently hurt his ankle and another crew member had been detained. As the melee erupted around them, Geraldo spent his time waiting for Police to release his staff as cameras ignored other arrests. As they did Geraldo turned to a group of the detaining police and said, "We're on your corner guys". Hannity then continued to interview the anonymous cop who told Hannity that Freddie's toxicology report showed heroin and marijuana in his system. Hannity was jumping with excitement, until Geraldo reminded him there is no law against being high.
