General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI live in Toledo, Ohio. We just had a 4.0 earthquake. W.T.F.
The epicenter was in Galesburg, Michigan, near Kalamazoo. Where can I find out where there's fracking?

(17,997 posts)Tuesday I posted about waiting for the Chicago quake. Then at 11:07am today, I posted about the Mississippi quake
I felt it just a few minutes later and thought I must be imagining it

(3,033 posts)We were watching hockey. I sent an email to a local ABC station, they confirmed it with the USGS, 4.0 at 12:43pm.
We had one in the late 80's, another shaking house while napping on the couch.

(17,997 posts)Here, today, my apartment shook. I live right next to the brown line. I mean right next to. And a half a block from that us the metra. This was much much more than a train going by. Place doesn't actually shake from that.
The one here I remember the most was in the 70s. It was during the night. Everyone in the house woke up except my brother. He slept right through it even though his bed moved about 2 feet.

(23,364 posts)... but only because we were sitting still at the time. It was just a small shaking this far from the quake center.

(17,997 posts)Obviously talking about a tiny thing like this one. 3 times in my life have I felt a quake here. So it's just a, cool! A little quake. Hopefully, we won't ever have a big one

(17,997 posts)I wasn't there but my nephew or niece had just been born. My mom was on her way out there, in flight, when it hit. My brother lived north of the 5 in or around Lancaster. We tried to get my mom to come back from her connection in Dallas but she just said, "they have earthquakes all the time" and hung up. My brother finally got through to us and said, "the yellow mom not to come. " Too late!
He had to have someone pick my mom up and take her to a hotel. She flew back the next day. There was no way to get to my brother's house.
I just remembered another earthquake in Chicago that was the biggest I personally ever felt, including in California. I was sleeping on a couch in the basement and it sounded like a train was coming and that a truck hit the wall. I was half asleep thinking "how did a train run through the ground? "

(17,997 posts)The one I felt in California was in the late 90s. It was an unusual earthquake because the plates moved horizontally, not vertically. Was a bizarre feeling of rolling

(23,340 posts)Threw me out of bed. Knocked down the local overpass on I-10, at Fairfax.
Here in the DC area we had a 5.6 a few years ago, which shocked everyone, and caused damage to the Washington Monument and National Cathedral.

(54,436 posts)You can often find out where there's fracking by searching for seismic
activity where the geology of the area indicates there should be none.

(49,212 posts)Since they do that whenever ANYTHING happens in California, even if it's hundreds upon hundreds of miles away.
My favorite was when the called to check on me after some mudslide in Malibu. That's something like seven hours away by car, so that would have to be some impressively swift mud.
