Alan Dershowitz, who has no access to any of the actual facts as to what the Baltimore prosecutor has in hand, has vomited up some garbage. Here's an excerpt of what he had to say:
"The decision to file charges was made not based on considerations of justice, but on considerations of crowd control," Dershowitz said Saturday.

I guess Dershowitz's Ouija board is as well oiled as his tongue.

(5,018 posts)doesnt need to do this because he doenst work for any of the accused, that I know of.
There is some legal reasons to see his side of the argument, I think maybe she did overcharge possibly, but this is not your usual circumstance and something HAD to be done.
Either way, you WANT a defense attorney to talk like this, having said that, Alan should shut up, he isnt directly involved.
You all know my position is always on the side of assuming cops are lying and likely guilty as charged, but I do want them to have vigorous defenses.

(7,290 posts)I too think she may have overcharged with the driver, but I haven't seen evidence, and there may well be something there that is a very glaring game changer.

(9,462 posts)Alan Dershowitz Rips Charges Against Baltimore Cops: Sad Day for Justice
Alan Dershowitz really went after Baltimore States Attorney Marilyn Mosby today for charging the six cops involved in the death of Freddie Gray, saying it was entirely based on politics and crowd control.
Dershowitz lamented that this is a very sad day for justice and told Steve Malzberg that Mosby acted out of a desire to prevent riots. It will be virtually impossible, he predicted, for the six officers involved to get a fair trial.
Continued at the link where he says, among other things that "if she does win, she'll be reversed on appeal"

(9,462 posts)psychological term to describe the mental illness that befalls people in their 70's that leads to them taking a right turn politically, driven by fear and paranoia. Scaliaosis. I think Dershowitz has it. He's been very hawkish on Israel, the incident with his friend in Florida. Doesn't seem like the younger Dershowitz.

(145,303 posts)The recent fight in Florida is a good example. There was no need to take that personally in that he was not a target but Dershowitz had to make it into a big deal

(3,535 posts)people that should be allowed to speak about it? Just the prosecutor and defense attorneys and no one else including all comments here on DU?
I don't like the guy, and am suspicious that he just wants some media attention and to be invited on a cable news network to make commentary, but he shouldn't lose his rights to comment about a public event.
